On your first concern, no one really knows what this will do to the game yet. Not even us. We'll strive to be as fair as possible to all teams and playstyles.

As for who commands the units, Team Merc will.

I wish to join the Mercs primarily as an observer because I would love to be privy to the strategy discussions that will be shaped by the Merc concept. I will certainly contribute as I can, but real life (4-month-old daughter) will keep me from making any firm commitments.
