Squid are Spain's most valuable resource. Squids are not only a source of food and ink, but they can be used quite effectively in battle (I found this out myself on several occasions). They are also good are weapons for execution. Finally, it would be true to say that they make exceptionably loving pets. The non-edible ones, that is.

The symbol of the democrats is the donkey (right? I'm not American so I'm not sure). But they don't say: "we should not let the donkey be our national symbol. We are denmocrats, not donkeys"

Squids as weapons for execution...hmmm...interesting. Can't wait for the Inquisition.

              Hows that song go,

              "The inquisition...
              look out sin,
              The inquisition...
              lets begin,"

OK, enough about squid in this thread.

I have a good idea that I'd like us to explore. We have 20+ members, but it is still a small group.

I would like to see everyone with a job/title/identity of some sort. A role in our society. There should be enough to go around.

Later on, there will be more jobs available ... commanders, explorers, governors, and so forth, so there is no rush. We can also change characters and jobs and such down the line.

For now, give it some thought. Try to create an identy for yourself be it the tavern owner, governor, rancher, merchant, explorer, warrior, prophet, lackey to the Despot or otherwise.

I feel this should add more character to our little society, our posts, and our game.

Spamish is opening a squid shop

Spamish is the leader of the Mitchell clan, and he is using the passed-down family secrets to try to decipher the world's mysteries. (In other words he's a scientist, or in this age, a prophet, a future-man, a I forget. Maybe he'll change again to something else. I dunno.)

Spamish knows 300 things you can do with Squid...
The Squid can be an inside joke down the line, like, in 2000AD when our soldiers march over the ruins of our last enemy's city, we will hold up a banner proclaiming the existence everywhere of the Almighty Squid!!!

Actually, you're wrong on that one We START the game with Alphabet and Ceremonial Burrial, even though we don't yet have a city. That means that if explored with our settler unit at gamestart rather than founding our first city and contacted another civ, we WOULD be able to trade our Ceremonial Burial and Alphabet techs...

So, no we don't have a city just yet... but we do have ceremonial burial and an alphabet

So, in other words, though Og may be a nasty brute who still has horrible table manners, he at least knows how to request his meat from the cook using a modicum of gramatical skill

There's a distinct difference between Democrats and democrats. A Democrat is a member of the Democratic Party in the United States, while a democrat is anyone who believes in democratic values and is a practitioner of the democratic system. Much as most republicans are not Republicans, most democrats are not Democrats.

Aside from this entire issue, the Role-play team is currently not a democracy... we're a primitive despotism

                      [rp]

So I strongly suggest that all of this talk about the "rule of the masses" quiet down before the illustrious Togas decides that such seditious rhetoric needs to be forcibly silenced in the interest of public order...

I could be the Scrollkeeper. That’s what I am in RL, more or less [librarian]

Or I could be the philosopher, who as an insider and outsider has the perspective to make pertinent observations about society. Of course, I would have to be from Andorra.

Or better yet, one of the early prophets of the Almighty Squid

                          • To my knowledge (and memory) I have given out only a few titles:

                            Governor Ninot
                            Most Trusted Advisor Arnelos
                            High Priest General Tacticus
                            Chamber Pot Cleaner Godking

I can give out a few more titles here and there, but I propose that we all create title/jobs/roles for ourselves within the society. Titles/jobs/roles will change with time, but I'm pleased to see that we already have a tavern and some mercant/traders as well as a scribe in our midst.

Oh, and I'm still thinking about something appropriate for Davout...

                            • Of course this is merely a more exotic name... but Ninot, governor of the capital city could be appointed Lord of the Palace...
I personally think it sounds nice.

                                Lord of the Palace?

while it isnt INCREDIBLY descriptive, it has a nice ring, and seems like something a feudalistic or ancient civ may name an official of such things.
