  • Shall we approve Trip to access our forum?

Well, everyone knows Trips request. Most of the other teams seem to have approved him. We have discussed this matter a while ago, but AFAIK came to no result, and even if we did, we missed to tell Trip about it.

    I just received this message:

This PM is an official request from myself, the PTW DG Historian, to be allowed access to the GS forum for purposes of recording and detailing the events that occur during the progression of the PTW DG. You can find the thread where I outlined my official proposal here.

Currently, I have access to the Vox, Roleplay and Lego forums, and in 2 days I should have access to GoW, and 3 days for ND if things go as expected. The only team I have yet to hear from is GS. NYE has told me to mention that he approves of my request, and encourages the team to do the same.

    I await GS' decision.
Since it's basically the same like approving a new member, I put up this poll with the well-known 3 options. The question is, shall Trip have access to our private forum? Possible answers are

    White - Yes
Black - Veto! (one black vote is enough to exclude him)
    Abstain - I don't care

If after 48 hours there are only White and Abstain votes, Trip will be granted access. If there's at least one Black vote, access will be denied.
    11
White - Yes, I approve his request
    36.36%
    4
Black - No, Veto! One vote is enough to deny access
    0.00%
    0
    Abstain - I don't care
    63.64%
    7

    The poll is expired.

I don't really care, so Abstain.

It looks like he sent that PM to all of us - I got it too. Spam like that really bugs me, but nevermind. I guess Trip was just getting impatient that we hadn't given him a Yes/No answer yet, which I can understand.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

I can't say I like this, but I don't object strongly enough to veto this poll.
      Therefore - abstain.

Edit: just as a mental excercise, what do you think would happen if we were the only team to deny Trip access to our forum? How will this affect the game, and the diplomatic side of it in particular?
IMHO we'll be getting less trust from other teams. The 'Secretive GS' stigma will just get stronger as a result... so perhaps it'd be a bad idea not to let him in.

I still don't like it. But I guess I'm just being paranoid.

        Abstain.

I'm not sure that the white/black poll is the right way to decide this. I think a majority vote would be more appropriate. I think this because I am hesitant to be the veto, and I think others would as well, but are more likely to reveal their true feelings in a regular vote.

          my .02 anyway

Sounds logical. May be we should repoll? Does anybody share this opinion?

You have a very good point, asleep. I don't want to be the veto either. But the system is designed that if a few members approve, and nobody is too much bothered, things can happen with less then a majority. Sometimes, that is a plus. Generally, I like the system for allowing members in, but Trip entering is bound to extra conditions.

However, I don't want to vote black here, as I principally like the idea. Further, I think Trip really will do all in his power to make this a success, meaning he will try not to influence the game. I'm hesitant because I'm not convinced that even if he tries, he can avoid spilling any secretive information to the public. We can't foresee what type of information a team is waiting for, and how could Trip? He can't read all the minds of the players...

So, abstain from me. But in case nobody really objects against this, I would say: welcome, Trip! Enjoy the read

I chatted with Trip last night. That is when he asked me about it.

I approve of letting him in because:

                1. Being the only team not to do so would further isolate us diplomatically.

                2. I believe Trip can keep a lid on it. Nothing will be published til long after the information is no longer sensitive, and Trip demonstrated an ability to avoid traps. He is fully aware of the discipline that is required of him, and I think I've known him long enough to say I believe he can do it.

                3. This game is a major event. It would be good if a chronicle is created to make a permanent record of it. I for one will enjoy the read when I get the chance to see it.

FP, i think he sent it to you because I suggested he approach you. I saw your thread on the topic and assumed you were interested in the issue.

                  Sorry if I misdirected him.

Count me as another "abstain." NYE, did you direct him to me as well, or did he target me just because I'm one of the players?

I would guess you and SR, because you are players. FP because I suggested it.

Did anyone else get the message?

That's perfectly understandable then, no problem at all.

btw, I replied to Trip's PM yesterday:

I don't know if any of the others have replied, but I'll do it just in case they haven't.

We're now taking a poll on whether to let you into the forum. It was started at 08:17 British Time this morning and will last for 48 hours. You'll have a definite Yes/No answer over the weekend.

Regardless of whether we let you into our forum or not, I wish you good luck in your new job as the Historian.

I'm on the same line as many others here, I like the idea (very much), but am hesistant for the same reasons already mentioned.
So it's an abstain from me.

Is there anyone who would vote no if this were a conventional poll rather than a "black ball" poll?
