  • PBEM game 'the european edition'

Anyone interested in starting another test-run

    I just got my copy (43€ --->local shop(FNAC))
So I can't wait for an MP game.
Non-europeans are welcome to join off-course

I suggest using the same set-up as the Demo-game,
Well, who's up for it ?
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

I guess I could give it a shot, assuming you don't mind an American. For my e-mail address, just add @hiwaay.net after my handle.

Pure humans, or a mixture of human civs and AI civs? Also, what map size did you have in mind? A small map might work well if it's four human civs with no AIs.

I was thinking max. 4 humans to keep it going.

We could mix in a couple of AI, or just keep it strictly humans. Either way is ok with me. Slight preference for no AI though.

We'll see what the other players say

Ha, I want to you too, but I'm only going to the Fnac this weekend... so I hope you guys can wait until Saturday to set this up.

And no AI? damn, that means I'll only have you guys to beat up

(I agree, actually, it would be cool to more or less try another game similar to the demogame)

We can decide that by Saturday, (I personally have not yet even opened the MP setup screen in PTW - maybe I will have done so by then), but lets decide on settings first.

I suggest everything random except civ choice and map size.

Are we playing tiny or small map? Are we choosing from the civs in the Demogame?

[Edit: I guess we could start and have DeepO go last]

alexman, what about taking the demogame civ choices, and try to play as they would (projected on how we see them, of course)? I will take whatever civ remains, and going last would be fine for me. If you guys don't like this idea, I'll try to pick one of the lesser known civs from the demogame, and try it on myself. It's no big deal, I'd like to play in numerous styles...

Come to think of it, maybe Nbarclay should set it up, seeing he is the only American. I guess

Would you guys like a fast(er) game?
We could set up a mini demo game...
don't worry, nothing fancy, just 2 players per team,
who could play whenever the save is availlable.
This could be a good way to get turns move more quickly.
Especially over the holydays where one player might be
                          unavaillable for several days.
And if we mix euro's with americans,
there practically always someone on-line to play ahead
We just post the save in the PBEM forum, afterall we don't really need private forum for this,do we
This is just an idea off-course

                            Sounds good to me!

I also like DeepO's idea to play the other civs as we think they would play, but then the public PBEM forum wouldn't be a good idea. Maybe our new group e-mail could serve that purpose.

I've at least opened the multiplayer setup to the extent of trying a few hotseat games with me controlling two civs against six AIs. Does that qualify me under the principle of, "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king"?

I'd really prefer a small map over a tiny one in order to provide some time to build before the only way we can expand is to eat each other. That would also probably capture more of the flavor of a standard-map 8-player game.

In regard to the idea of trying to play like we think the real PtW Demo Game opponents would, I'm skeptical about hamstringing myself with someone else's strategy. Although I might do a passable Lux Invicta - build early and then consider what I need to do with my Sipahi when the time comes.
