@Spiffor: You don't get any French-speaking spam? I get noticeable amounts on my French address.

    hi ,

sooner or later they tend to do that , ....

then agaain you could add each piece of spam on a blocked senders list , .... most isp's have now some protection that stops it at the server , .....

    have a nice day

I dont think it's a big problem. Hell, I'm not even sure it isnt just some weird coincidence. For now, I just think its an interesting possibility and when I see threads like this I chime in with my 2 cents.

Its not simply a question of spam and email. That's obvious.

The question is how I can get spam with poly topics in the subject to an email address that has never been used (or mentioned) at poly? I suppose spyware could explain it the link, but AFAIK (and I do check) I've never had any.

Hmmm? What about an IP address? Is there an IP address (or some other identifier) in the property info of our posts here? Since I had a static IP address at home I guess that could have been used to send spam to my 'real' email.

Spammers get your real e-mail bc your e-mail address is going over the internet everytime you sent an e-mail.

If someone forwards you an e-mail, you can get on a spamlist. If you are included in one of your fine friends "Forward this message so Brian can get a new kidney" e-mails, you'll surely get on spamlists. Since those e-mails pass spam-companies as well. They say thanks to brian and add all recipients to their lists.

Everyone who uses internet mail will receive spam. The more active you are, the more spam you'll receive.
It's a part of the internet.

SHIFT-DEL is the ultimate solution for a small problem.

I dont believe the spammers have access to our account info since I dont get spam at my poly email address.

I have seen spam at my 'real' email that uses words that were posted only at poly i.e. I wasnt discussing whether Lincoln was a self-aggrandizing bastard anywhere else then I suddenly get spam with those terms in the subject.

The thing that confuses me is how they get my 'real' email. It must be something to do with cookies I think.
