Question about Techs

When adding tech are the x y used for? The size of the box or the location on screen?

I have walked since the dawn of time and were ever I walk, death is sure to follow. As surely as night follows day.

Location on the screen. The box size will float depending on how many units, buildings etc. come into the game with a tech. The more there are, the bigger the box will be.
