  • Finally - Empire of the Rising Sun Full Beta

Here it is, after all these months of waiting! This is the full beta of 'Empire of the Rising Sun,' open for your merciless playtesting and criticism. Please, test it (including both events forks after Dec '43, if you can), and tell me what you think and what can be improved. It's in four zip files, but put them all in one folder (I'll provide sounds to anyone who asks; I was having trouble zipping them). Here is the first zip.

Oh, one note I didn't mention in the readme.txt, but meant to: I've tied the German fortunes of war off the map to how the Japanese player is doing after Dec '43, which greatly affects events. Sorry about that omission.

I just found a bug I didn't notice before; some of you may have noticed too. The Soviets begin allied (no negotiation) with Japan, but only at peace (no negotiation) with the other Allies. This causes trouble of a sort that's quite predictable. Here's the updated .scn file that fixes that problem for anyone who wants it.

Is my scenario so bad no one is willing to post a criticism for fear of offending me? C'mon guys, I put a lot of work into this scenario. At least give me something, if even a scathing (but please constructive) criticism. I've faced worse for my projects.

I'm sure the real constructive comments will be comming in this week. We know for a fact Curt has downloaded it, and we saw Techumseh express interest in its release on the Seven Years War thread.

Relax. I can't be the only one who needs to finish another scen before tackling EOTRS. Having two on the go at the same time means that neither one gets the attention it deserves. That is hardly fair to the designers who have put so much work into creating the scens.

Excerpts from the Manual of the Civilization Fanatic :

Money can buy happiness, just raise the luxury rate to 50%.
Money is not the root of all evil, it is the root of great empires.

                          Stay cool, old bean!

I am on the case, and will post up a bullet list soon.
I have been delayed while creating a lot of Daleks lately!

A very grand map and it is obvious a lot of work has went into this epic.

As for feedback here are some things that instantly hit me:

Pearl Harbour - This event is done very nicely!
*Not sure....Were there any US carriers present at Pearl Harbour?
*I was a bit worried at the AA guns, but now that I think about it, they are balanced.
*Losses were not too heavy, and fit with the 'death or glory' attitude of WW2 Japan.
*Once the bombers begin attacking the Harbour, the USN begins to feel the pain!
*You probably don't need all those planes, I would remove about 40% of them.

                              Balance...
*The units seem to be well balanced, although my conquests have just started.
*It seems like Japan has tons of units, but I am sure they will be worn out soon.
*I would make sure units are hard to replenish quickly, just to offset rapid conquest.

                              Some other things....
*Lose two of the cities in the extreme North of the USA. Cluster cities in the West coast.
*Terrain needs an overhaul, especially mining Icons. I can help if you wish.
*Those WW2 USA/Brit cities are not my best. I will create some new ones for you.
*I hope those red cities cannot build anything, or you will be swamped with units!
*The round unit shields are very good, and you can easily spot units...Nice!
*I like the Japanese flavoured units, but suggest you add some info on them in the civlopedia.

More to come - I am sure my conquest will be glorious!
The rising sun flag will flutter in Los Angeles!
