  • Laptop and Civ4

The last time I played Civilization it was Civ2. Doing a search it looks like Civ4 is the way to go. Here are the specs for my laptop, I am woried about the graphic card (or lack there of)

Vista 64 bit (Looks like others on this site are running 64 bit)
    4 Gig of Ram
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
    Intel(R) Core 2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz
    Intel(R) Core 2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz

Do you think I can run Civ4? Thanks!

Some of the guys here know more about the graphics support requirements than I do but as I understand you'll have trouble. You need something able to support DirectX 9 and the 3D rendering.

I have a Mobile Intel Express Chipset thingy in my very cheap and tiny laptop... whenever I loaded Civ IV, I got the message that Civ IV 'could not run on this hardware'.
But the thing is... it could run, and it does (all I have to do is [OK] the message and carry on), so I eventually went in to the config.ini and disabled the message.

So what I'm saying is, if I have the same Chipset as you or worse, then Civ IV ought'a run on your laptop... however, you will need all graphics options down to minimum, and particle effects disabled. You may even need to turn off the movies, because for some reason, the wonder/victory movies glitch like hell for me (the opening movie works fine, though... must be when a game map is loaded that causes the problem).

So once again, it should work... just expect an occasional choppy framerate when a lot of things are happening on screen, and a chance of moviefail.
