That's mostly it - ultimately it's a gameplay decision and one I support. Yes you could (and I'm sure people will now ) come up with a model for reforestation that gets around the potential for IFE type abuse, but you have to ask yourself - would there be enough real strategic value added? What few of those that make 'real world suggestions' realise is that with Civ4 Firaxis has done an amazing job of retaining strategic depth within a stylised model with (in comparative terms) no micro. Just tacking on stuff because there's some real world counterpart to the phenomenon is to be avoided.

Northern British Columbia and Alberta is an area far larger than Texas, and most of it is commercially harvested lumber. They cut down the trees and then plant replacements. Takes about 20 years before they start the cycle again.

To avoid the exploit possibilities there would almost certainly have to be a regrow period of 20 turns or so, and I'd think that it should take a very modern tech such as Ecology for it to be an option.

But overall I'm against replanting because who in their right mind wants to spend every turn sending dozens of workers around harvesting lumber. That's not fun.

When you build a lumbermill, I like to think that portions of the tile are now being cut/replanted every turn. It just happens that it takes exactly one civilian per tile to cause the regrow rate to equal the exploitation rate and the result is the forest never goes away.

        re:

in the latest patch global warming was tweaked a little, in the pre-patch days it was just caused if nuclear weapons were used or a nuclear reactor melted down. now it's also caused by having a lot of polluting buildings like factories etc, not much you can do about it other than build fewer unhealthy buildings or don't use nuclear weapons.

            Yes, definately not a bot.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I kind of like global warming. Gives me a sense of the passage of time my hours are supposed to have represented. Also usually goads me to take over more 'fertile' grounds...which in no way parallels real world events.
