Penth's bodyguard is overrun by the Legions. The Master himself is killed while attempting to
escape, though it is questionable whether he was killed deliberately or merely trampled to death
by accident. Either way, the Legions fulfilled the vow of their General. Prince Sebastian is taken
on as the heir apparent under a very different protector. But the "loyalists" fight on to the bitter
end.
Nobody ever asked what happened to Penth's body. But Maximillian is said to have originally
planned to build a great ballroom in Arkos when the war was concluded, and reserved a special
spot in the center of the floor for "a guest of honor."

Penth is struck down in a flash of flame and thunder. The festering malice of Rucillus echoes in a
triumphant laugh over the battlefield. The infant prince is not seen again, but the Loyalists fight on
to avenge their "Lord," though who they refer to by that title is never entirely clear.

The mad Rucillus Gallire dies at the hands of the Legions. His soul leaves his body in a black
cloud of infernal flame, determined to continue the battle against his old enemies for pure spite.
His lingering hatred cannot be defeated by anything but the total destruction of his accursed
works, and the exorcism of his demonic allies from every spot they have infected.
Rucillus may still be seen, his withered body encased in bronze, as a gargoyle over the main
entrance of the Grand Cathedral. At his feet a traditional proverb of warning against pride is
engraved in minute letters into the keystone:
"WHAT YOU ARE, I ONCE WAS. WHAT I AM, YOU WILL BE."

Rucillus is destroyed, but his bitterness will not be satisfied so easily. A shadow rises from his
fallen form, a King among wraiths and nightmares to haunt the earth until its every earthly trace is
destroyed or it consumes itself in loathing and insanity.
But Penth's followers care not for tales of angry devils and boogeymen. They fight the Magi
resistance with the air of rat-trappers scouring out an old building.

Maximillian is captured alive, but killed by his guards while awaiting a show trial. The Loyalists
are scandalized at first, but quickly cease caring. They are too busy fighting off the redoubled
efforts of the enraged Legions to wipe them off the face of the earth...

Maximillian is taken, screaming in pain, into a fiery chasm in the air which seals shut and vanishes
behind him. Not placated, Rucillus sets himself the new goal of exterminating every soldier who
ever served under the old Royal family. The Legions hastily reorganize under the provisional
leadership of the General's second-in-command Frederick. Frederick, like his predecessor, is
advised by the exiled Archbishop, who has a different sort of "extermination" in mind...
