^
^After the peace treaty that ended the Indo-China War between France, Indo-China's colonial master,
^exhausted by the Second World War, and the Communist guerilla movement known as the Vietminh,
^which has significant support from the U.S.S.R. and People's Republic of China, Indo-China was
^divided into four independent countries: North Vietnam, under a Vietminh-based Communist regime,
^South Vietnam, which was ideally supposed to be a democratic republic, but quickly fell to
^corruption and inefficiency, and Laos and Cambodia, who rapidly fell under military dictatorships.
^Hoping to contain the spread of Communism in Asia, the United States intervenes in a civil war
^in South Vietnam between its ineffectual, pro-Western regime and the Communist guerillas called
^the Viet Cong, who seek unity with their principal backers, North Vietnam, who supplies them via a
^secret chain of roads and tunnels through Laos and Cambodia called the Ho Chi Minh Trail, thus
^bypassing the Inter-Vietnamese border. The U.S.'s 'police action' leads them quickly into conflict
^with North Vietnam (the protagonist) themselves. It is advised you play either the Americans or North
^Vietnamese, as they're the principal players, though for a challenge you may wish to try the South
^Vietnamese. Laos, Cambodia, China, and Thailand play strictly supporting roles and shouldn't be
^seriously played (except maybe in a large multi-player game). Every city in South Vietnam is an
^objective; North Vietnam wants them, and the other players want to stop them. Good Luck!
