Readme for 'The Vietnam War,' by Patrick L. Shephard

I admit, first off, that this scenario starts off as derivative of a Vietnam War scenario I found with a
collection of scenarios, maps, graphics, and other miscellaneous things for Civilization II on a CD-Rom
by a company called Walnut Creek. It does use the same map, the same players (though that set of players
I think is ideal for the scenario), and has many of the same city locations. That's where the similarity
ends. The map is expanded to include many new cities, and Bangkok and Phnom Penh's locations are changed
to be more accurate, each civilization gets its own infantry and offensive unit (either an armor or
militia unit (or both for the South Vietnamese), units such as Viet Cong, Free World Allied Infantry and
Green Berets are also included, there's actually events and the total war flag is enabled, and the Ho Chi
Minh Trail is represented by renamed and restyled railroad (everywhere else has road, though the road
movement rate is increased, and more Ho Chi Minh Trail can't be built). The scenario is meant to be played
as either the Americans or North Vietnamese, though the South Vietnamese can be interesting too. This
scenario is not designed to be played from the Chinese, Thai, Cambodian, or Laotian point of view, and
thus that might not be nearly as enjoyable as the main players. Viet Cong units can only be built by the
North Vietnamese at the VC Emcampment in South Vietnam (and even then, only if they don't touch the Build
button), but does replenish in the countryside every 3 turns. The Inter-Vietnamese border is guarded by
fortified infantry in fortresses on both sides (hence the use of the Ho Chi Minh Trail to the North
Vietnamese). The Free World Allies appear at a set time and their infanry are created at a U.S. airbase
in South Vietnam (Thailand's role as a FWA is simply represented by having aggression with North Vietnam
made). Though there was a no-fire, no-fly order over North Vietnam for the Americans, I found no palatable
way to make that enforced with the events (if someone has a suggestion, please let me know).

Enjoy!
