^
^The Cold War has all but ended, but still there is much strife and conflict in the
^Middle East. Issues still abound about political, religious, and military disputes
^dating back decades, though many in new guises. Into this turbulent part of the world
^you're thrust, to lead one faction to supremacy. There are seven available factions
^in this scenario. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is represented by the
^former Soviet republics in the region, principally Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan,
^Uzbekistan, Turkenistan, and southern Kazakhstan, and they play a moderate and more
^or less neutral role. The Moderate Arabs/Pakistanis are those Arab nations friendly
^to the West: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, and Oman; as well
^as Pakistan, who is at least cooperative to Western goals, and they begin allied to
^the U.S. and Allies. The Israelis are the protagonists and thus must try to defeat
^world opinion and sieze nearby Arab cities while holding their own, though they begin
^allied to the U.S. and Allies. The Volitile Arabs/Iranians include more anti-Western
^Arab nations: Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and the Palestinians (the latter who spring up
^in armed rebellion in Israeli territory from time to time) and Iran. The U.S. and
^Allies include Greece and Turkey, plus two U.S. bases in Turkey, a U.S. naval task
^force in the Mediterranean, and Anglo-American forces at Diego Garcia, actually
^starting on the map, though more can be summoned by specific triggers in the
^Events.txt. The Iraqis are opposed to the Western powers and Israel, and seek to
^expand their powers in the region. And, the Afghans are under a harsh but perfectionist
^fundamentalist regime called the Taliban after years of civil war and Soviet
^interferrence, but may get into international trouble by playing host to a major
^terrorist group called al-Qaeida...
