JOHN ELLIS' COLONIES III - PIRATES VERSION
by WarVoid, 2002
***********************

This is an adaption of John Ellis' wonderful Colonies III (3.1.2.) scenario.

In this version, you have only one player option; the Brethren of the Coast. Playing as the Brethren allows you to play as the Pirates of the scenario. Normally an events function, you can now take up arms as the Buccaneers and go privateering around the Caribbean in search of treasure and empire.

The Brethren are actually a modified Huron. Since, according to standard history, the Huron were absorbed by the Iroquois Confederation, the Huron cities went to the Iroquois respectively. In turn, the Huron became the Brethren and received the cities of Tortuga and New Providence, the two major Pirate cities at the time. They also have some some Farmers and Pirates units in Nicaragua along the Moskito Coast, to represent the valuable wood trade they held a monopoly on.

While militarily weak, the Brethren are much like the Dutch player. They have a lot of wealth (moreso than technology) at their disposal. If spent well, it can be used as the needed leverage to gain them more power.

The only new changes to the actual scenario are events. Whereas all normally Independent Pirate events are now given to the Brethren. To the cities.gif file where the flags have been adjusted and city.txt file for name changes. And to the rules.txt filed where the Huron listing has been replaced by the Brethren equivalent.

Have fun and good gaming!

To use this mod of John Ellis' Colonies III, make sure you have a backup copy of the original scenario files. Now, replace the old Colonies III files in the col312 directory (or respective Colonies III scenario directory) with the mod files (listed below). Once this is done, load Civ2 and load the scenario as you would normally do. Choose to play as the Brethren of the Coast and enter the required fields as necessecary.
