Zip File Contents:
/art/units/void
/art/units/void.ini
T20mod1_000.bic

Directions on installing:

1.)Extract to your civ directory
2.)copy the contents of your [civ]/Art/units/scout/ directory to the [civ]/Art/units/void/ directory

Directions on use:
--Open the T20mod1_1000.bic file with the Civ3edit.
--Under Rules->Edit Rules select the units tab.
--In the unit box you will see the names of all the normal units if you scroll to the end you will find 32 void units, you can change any of the stats of these and they will behave just like anyother unit would to those changes.
--However: if you decide to rename the unit from void you MUST create a subdir under the art folder with name that you assign it, and you MUST setup a [unitname].ini file where [unitname] is the desired name in that directory. look at the other subdirs in the /Art/units/* directory to get a feel for how the ini files work. (it would probably be easiest right now just to copy the contents of the void dir to the [unitname] dir that you make and modify those files).

Q&A

Why 32 more units,...is the max that can be added?
32 units was pretty easy for me to add to the file with a hex editor, though by looking at the structure of the .bic file format it seems that either 127, 256, 32768 or 65535 units will be possible. However not that the icon file units_32.pcx in the art/units/ dir has a maximum of 84 slots for icons, these are the icons that appear for the units in the build queue i do believe..but i am not sure...in the file the wild claim "this the only true icon sheet, all others are a mistake or delusion" is made. I have not yet been able to verify the remarks of this renegade artist.

Can more technologies, empires, etc.. be added or will firaxis have to do that with a patch?
Well added as in not overwriting the old ones to make new ones...It seems like they can be, though i am gonna have to dig into this more to be certain. Of course the editor has no direct support of this. On the bright side if it was as easy to do as with the units....it should be no problem.

[Technical stuff]
How did you add the units?
Not for the faint of heart, but anyone who knows how to hack files or use a hex editor its pretty easy.
I used Hex Workshop and at offset 75fch is a byte (or maybe a word haven't tested it yet) that indicates the number of units in the file..in normal file it is 42h in mine its been hacked to 62h. after that the data that the editor generates for each unit. i just made a 'void' unit and pasted it 32 times at the end after the privateer entry. Mess around with it for a bit and you figure it out. If you can't, well you need to work on your hacking skills.

Why do you think that more races etc may be possible?
Looking through the files it seems that Several of the categories have this precursor byte (or maybe word)	like the one at 75fch for example for the different type of civilizations entry there is one = 11h i.e. 16 civ's + 1barbarian race.

Anyhow that is it for now i just wanted to give the mod makers something to start with i will look into the other stuff in a few days hopefully, anyone else with knowledge editing files is welcome to try.

Feel free to email me at the address listed below...just note that i am very very busy with school so my responses are gonna take a while but i'll do my best :) The Forums would be the best place to start, as more people can answer and see your questions there.
