This scenario is designed to be used with .bat files to switch between summer and winter, starting in summer. When prompted, make sure to save the game as CGW.sav and run the bat file, choosing to load winter or summer. PLEASE make sure to name the save CGW, otherwise the .bat WILL NOT WORK. Thanks. HOUSE RULES: ------------ *Can't think of anything. Suggestions welcome! IMPORTANT --------- UNIQUE WAYS TO GET CASH: 1) Killing a "Village" unit will give 75 gold. 2) Killing a "Minor Tribe" unit will give 100 gold. 3) Killing a "Villagers" unit will give 50 gold. 4) Conquering a certain Southern Confederation city will give 25 gold per turn. If this city is lost, the tribute will stop. If retaken, the tribute will start again. 5) One tech will yield 1500 gold once researched. 6) Destroying the "Bourges" unit will give 1500 gold. UNIQUE WAYS TO LOSE CASH: 1) Losing mercenary units like "Cretan Light Infantry" and "Elite Cavalry" will respawn them in a few turns, with between 100 and 200 gold taken to pay for their replacement. 2) Certain techs with a gold coin symbol will take gold if researched. 3) If the "Sens" unit is destroyed, 400 gold will be taken. 4) If a "Roman Citizens" unit is destroyed, 100 gold will be taken. POLITICAL DEBT: To simulate Caesar's debt, 60 gold is taken every turn via events. This burden will never be removed for the length of the scenario. LEGIONS: Legions are your most powerful and most useful units in the game, therefore getting more legions is a must to conquer all Gaul. Legions are only being built in the Roman Camp city, in the form of a 'Green Legion.' Once a Green Legion is built, it depicts the characteristic vulnerability of the raw soldiers forming a new legion. After this particular unit has sought out and destroys a 'Free Tribe' unit, the blooded soldiers making the green legion will change into a true Legion unit in the Roman Camp. SLAVES: Slaves are units with a high shield cost generated when you destroy a 'minor tribe' unit or a 'villagers' unit. They are meant ONLY FOR DISBANDING. Since a Green Legion costs a heck of a lot, it would be a good idea to disband all acquired slaves in the Roman Camp city to hurry up the production. GAULISH REINFORCEMENTS: EAch tribe will get a flood of reinforcements each spring. So don't be merciful and leave a Gaulish civ with one city, because next spring, that one city will have 50+ units. TECHS: Techs are strictly for reinforcements, and the ability to build a few more improvements like "Merchants Quarter." One tech, however, is designed to just give a cash boost. VERCINGETORIX AND HIS REINFORCEMENTS: After the Vercingetorix uprising is triggered, there will be a one-time mass spawning of an army. After that, one 'True Gaulish Army' unit will be spawned randomly each turn at a few locations. These spawning locations are marked with a 'Training Camp' unit. If you destroy the training camp, you will get a 'Fort' unit. You can paradrop this unit on the spawning location, thereby blocking any more True Gaulish armies from appearing. Believe me, those True Gaulish armies are no fun, so block the spawning points quickly. SCORCHED EARTH: Don't even bother. Most Gaulish units have the 'all terrain as road' flag and 1 movement point. This depicts the usual Gaulish army clumsiness and vulnerability. It also conveniently throws any scorched earth tactic out the window. SPAIN: ...is a placeholder so that the Gauls won't go wandering there, although the Gaulish tribes can declare war on Spain. OBJECTIVES ---------- Marginal victory is the subjugation of all Gaul. Decisive victory is the subjugation of Gaul and the southern cities in Great Britain. I should not have to tell you what defeat is. MY OWN STRATEGY GUIDE-YOU MAY WELL HAVE BETTER IDEAS! ----------------------------------------------------- First- if you play fast and loose, you will find yourself overwhelmed and unable to protect the Province. So for Rome's sake don't charge out and declare war on the whole world. When Caesar wanted to literally exterminate a Gaulish tribe, he invited all the other tribes to join in the slaughter. It would be wise to do the same thing if you can't completely swallow the tribe yourself. When out in force, the Gaulish hordes are dangerous. Weaker units like the Cretan Light Infantry and the Mercenary Cavalry will get promptly killed if not protected by a Legion. However, they do have their uses. Cavalry are excellent for scouting out and razing villages, along with killing any vulnerable Levies or Gaulish cavalry. Cretan Light Infantry and Light Infantry are useful for attacking cities in their own right, as well as defending Roman cities.
