(1) Basic Background Information

Is it the war to end all wars--or war without end? What began as a conflict in Europe, when Germany unleashed a lightning assault on its enemies, soon spreaded into remote areas all over the globe. Into this vast, seething cauldron plunges a new generation of weaponry changing the shape of war and the balance of power. Victory is at hand. But at a price that may be worse than war itself ...

(2) Basic Gameplay Information:

The MAP is only partly stackable (= a fortress has been added to a certain number of terrain types). The Desert, Mountains, Marshes and Tundra terrains are not stackable. You may conduct war also on those terrains but, however, you wont find it too intelligent since those terrains put a significant obstacle to the war business.

You will not be able to build AIRBASES or SUBURBs as those technologies have been removed from the tech tree to prevent lightning fast conquering of a nation in one single turn.

CIV-SPECIFIC TECHNOLOGIES are also included into this scenario.

There are only a handful of aerial units since the ground units all represent either regimental or divisional level and aviation was not that important after all in World War One. Also, it might prove almost impossible to defeat and annihilate gound units (except maybe freight trucks) with aeroplanes.

TERRAIN KNOWLEDGE might prove more than vital to you war effort. The different terrain types have all different effects on the defence and attack power of your units. I aimed to recreate a more than bloody stalemate, so watch WHERE you position your troops!

In order to recreate the TRENCH WARFARE in the Great War I added a TRENCH terrain that could easily be digged by your Engineers pressing the 'M' key. This terrain type gives you a real advantage whe it comes to defence.

All NOT-MAJOR POWERS in this scenario are represented by Barbarian cities which seem to make them easy targets and victims. Seem to. Be advised that the some of those cities - representing the really neutral nations in World War One - are very difficult to take and might cause a very high number of casualties.

DISCLAIMER: I cannot do anything against the AI wasting thier precious (mostly naval) units on coastal attacks. Stupid AI.

(3) Information on Generic and Specific Units:

Some more or less GENERIC UNITS like the ones noted below are standard units. They are buildable without restrictions - save the general unit limit, of course. Those units have a fair attack value but might loose against each other when the defending unit is on a terrain square with a good defence bonus or from another branch of the military spectrum.

Engineer Brigade
Monoplane
Marine Regt
Fighter Wing
Destroyer Flotilla
Armoured Cruiser
Dreadnought
Battlecruiser
Super Dreadnought
Submersible
Freight Ship
Poison Gas Shells
Garrison
Freight Convoy
Ship of Line

All other units have certain restrictions when it comes to building them and/or civ-specific restrictions.
