I. DISCLAIMER AND DESIGNER'S NOTES
This scenario was my pet project, which I worked on in hours of boredom and frustration. I think this is quite easy to recognize if you play it. It has no connection to the real world except for some facts. The Republic of Nauru does exist, but the events occuring here are entirely fictional. Some information on Nauru that was used here can be found on the site http://www.fotw.net and http://www.news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/country_profiles/1134221.stm
Please, do not make the mistake of taking this scenario seriously. I do not mean a word of it seriously (well-except for one fact concerning myself in the background plot written below). Whether this is your taste or not is your problem, not mine.

II. INSTALLATION

I can only guarantee you that this scenario will work with Fantastic Worlds. I cannot guarantee you that it works with MGE/UCC. It will not work with CiC or lower versions.
Create a folder under the Scenario directory, call it "Nauru" or whatever, and move all the unzipped files in.
Other versions of Civ2 use other file destinations. If you have the French or German version of Civ2, you must rename all the .txt files into .Fre and .Ger to play this scenario properly.

III. BACKGROUND PLOT

[Note: This is fictional!]
Since the death of Hammer de Roburt, Nauru has maintained a policy of changing presidents like underpants. The unstable political situation has not, however, had much negative impact on the country's economical situation, and phosphate trade has made Nauru one of the richest states of the world, with one of the highest per capita incomes. But the phosphate ressources are almost entirely exploited, and the centre of the island has been turned into inhospitable and not very pretty wastelands.
Secret plans of the government have now been to buy an island in the Cook Islans from the government of New Zealand. Naturally, the fewest of the 13,000 Nauruans liked that idea, and an opposition fraction calling themselves "Homelovers" (which is just a name to hide the ultranationalist ideals) has emerged. In a nightly action, they have taken captive the hotel in the east of the island. Nauruan police forces are besieging the hotel, but they have very little hope without help from the United Nations. Meanwhile, communist intellectuals have started a revolt in the college at Anna, just for the sake of doing so (or maybe to please this scenarios leftist author).
And from one night to the other, there was civil war in the world's smallest republic...

IV. OTHER NOTES

I don't think much about this scenario needs explanation. Much is self-explanatory, and it isn't that detailed. It is an objectives scenario, and you will propably get most fun out of playing either the Communists or the Homelovers. The goal is simply to conquer the whole island.

V. CREDITS

I didn't mind to create any great new graphics (I did make some cheap ones though). The city graphics, and the "Revolution" icon were made by Captain Nemo. The rest comes from following files: Allflags by Michael D. McCart, Michael D. Raney and Greg Walker, Allicons by Harlan Thompson, WW2 units by Harlan, Allterrain by I-don't-know-who, and various Microprose scenarios.
Other graphics are by Bernd Brosing, Jess Balsinde, Stefan deJonge, and Masis Panos.
The scenario title and the introductory quote was taken from the song "Down By The Seaside" by Led Zeppelin from the album "Physical Graffiti".

VI. FEEDBACK

For questions, comments notes or anything else, you can write me an eMail
to Stefan.Haertel@t-online.de
You can also write something to one of Apolyton's forums, preferably the SLeague forum. Please visit my homepage at http://www.alexanderthegreat.de/civ2/
Please don't write to tell me that your version of Civ2 doesn't load this scenario.
I'm not going to answer these mails. Your game doesn't support the version this scenario was made in (FW; 2.72). You can download a patch to update your game at http://www.civfanatics.com
Here you can get the latest versions of all my other scenarios, as well as my other creations for Civ2.
