Following the Paris Peace Accords, Henry Kissinger and Richard Nixon, oblige on their
commitments to the American public to withdraw all US troops from Vietnam. The last troops
depart, demobilising their installations and infrastructure. This however leaves their South
Vietnamese allies in a predicament, the US has left, but 150,000 North Vietnamese Troops
remain in it's territory. With the promises of US Air support, President Theiu begins a pacification
campaign in the countryside, only to realise later this leaves him with no strategic reserves to face
the PAVN.

The battle for the 'hearts and minds' of the Vietnamese has been now ongoing at this point for 6
years. US advisors, unable to train the ARVN (Army of Republic of Vietnam) Have been unable
to translate their firepower and influence into village level support from the people. In their midst,
are the forces of the National Liberation Front (NLF) and the increasingly belligerent North
Vietnamese Army (NVA) which has now established a Central Office for South Vietnam
(COSVN) under the overall leadership of Ho Chi Minh. The RVN (Republic of Vietnam) now
has the difficult task (alongside it's American allies) of trying to establish government control in its
own territory. Both sides are vying for the unification of the other.

ARVN Conscripts are the least motivated of the fighting forces in Vietnam, suffering under poor
leadership, dessertions, lack of adequate weapondry and willingness to fight the superior forces
(in morale and leadership) of either the NVA or the NLF. Poor leadership and lack of a direction
will dog the ARVN until the very last days of the war. Not to mention the massive corruption
within it's army ranks.

It's now 1972 and the US is beginning it's final preparations for final withdrawal from Vietnam.
The North Vietnamese, feeling the time is ripe to unite the two countries, launches the Easter
Offensive from it's bases in Eastern Cambodia and North-Eastern Laos. ARVN units assemble
hastily to counter the threat, but NVA units are poised to take Hue and Quang Tri province. The
US, on hearing of the attack, launches Operation 'Linebacker' which prevents the NVA from
making more gains from its initial attack.
