Scenario for Civilization 2; reqires MGE version

Time periods in the Vietnam War and the Vietnam.bat file
There are six distinct time periods within this scenario, each with different events. They are listed, together with the range of
turns they encompass, in the menu of the Vietnam.bat file and below:
Pre-Tet: Jan 1965-Oct 1967
Tet Offensive: Nov 1967-Feb 1968
Post Tet: Mar 1968-Dec 1969
Beginning of the End: Jan 1970-Dec 1971
Endgame: Jan 1972-Dec 1975
The Domino Effect: Jan 1976-Nov 1979
Open Vietnam.bat before beginning the scenario and select 'Pre-Tet: Jan 1965-Oct 1967.' At the end of the last turn of each time period (make
sure you have 'always wait at end of turn' option enabled), save your game as VN.sav, then exit Civ 2, select the next time period, and
reload VN.sav. An overview of the time periods follows:

1.)Pre-Tet: Jan 1965-Oct 1967
US morale is fresh, and the Viet Cong are getting going. The Americans begin with three bases in South Vietnam, stocked with a
significant number of forces, and more waiting at 'Stateside' on the east edge of the map. As well, they receive regular influxes of fresh
recruits at their bases and swift boats in the Mekong Delta, and the Free World Allies send forces to Cam Ranh Bay in March of 1967, and
there is no penalty for losing units. The Viet Cong receive a regular influx of new forces in South Vietnam.

2.)Tet Offensive: Nov 1967-Feb 1968
The NVA/VC launch a major offensive at the beginning of this time period, gaining an influx of new units in the November 1967 turn
and nearly doubling their VC replenishment rate. As well, US confidence is shooken, and no new free recruits or swift boats appear, though
new units may still be built Stateside or in US bases or liberated South Vietnamese cities, and there is still no penalty for losing units.

3.)Post Tet: Mar 1968-Dec 1969
VC replenishment drops back to normal, though US morale falters even further and now, not only do they no longer gain free recruits
and swift boats, they suffer a monatary deduction for all American (though not FWA) units destroyed by NVA/VC forces, depending in cost to
the value of the unit.

4.)Beginning of the End: Jan 1970-Dec 1971
Same as Post-Tet, except that, smelling imminent victory in a matter of months, the VC make a major putsch and their replenishment
rate returns to what it was during the Tet Offensive (though they don't gain the big influx of units at the beginning of that offensive
again).

5.)Endgame: Jan 1972-Dec 1975
Same as Beginning of the End, save that monatary costs for lost US units are dropped, but the Americans withdraw (their civ is
killed) in January 1973 (if you're playing the US, retire and collect your score in the December 1972 turn; if you're playing the North or
South Vietnamese, continue playing). The NVA/VC is free to pursue objectives then checked only by what's left of South Vietnam.

6.)The Domino Effect: Jan 1976-Nov 1979
North Vietnam begins expansion to establish puppet states in Cambodia and Laos, as well, if necassary, to finish off South Vietnam.
The Americans are no longer an issue. War breaks out between North Vietnam and Cambodia and Laos, and it's a final push for objectives. VC
replenishment returns to normal speed, but they begin springing up in Laos and Cambodia.

Universal Events
North Vietnam's alliance with China, South Vietnam's with the Americans, and the Americans' with the Thai, are, due to lack of
negotiation, unbreakable. North Vietnam may not negotiate peace with either the South Vietnamese or Americans, and vice versa. The Americans
(where they're present) may not make a land invasion of North Vietnam; if they capture a North Vietnamese city, they'll be forced to withdraw
(they're civ will be destroyed). As well, if the Americans bomb the Soviet embassy in Hanoi, the USSR will militarily intervene.

The Ho Chi Minh Trail
A strip of railroad with a different graphic and name is used for the Ho Chi Minh Trail, connecting Hanoi to the VC encampment in
southern South Vietnam (thus no railroads may be built in this scenario).

Graphics Credits
Most of the Units are from Kashanka's collection, though the NV Infiltrator, MiG-21, and Soviet Embassy are from Jim Panse, the SV Police, US
Marine, and US SOG are from vodkakov, the Portuguese Infantry is from typhoon, and the US Artillery and Freight Truck are from Panda's
'Crises of the New World Order.' Terrain is cobbled mostly from Microprose's 'Master of Magic, jr.' and Dragoon's Tropical Terrain. Thai and
Chinese city styles are from 'Crises,' the Cambodian and Laotian style is from Charles Kimball's 'Southeast Asia,' the North Vietnamese style
is standard vanilla Civ2 East Asian Pavilion, whereas the South Vietnamese style is from Microprose's 'Samurai' scenario, and the American
'base' is from 'Paradise' in 'Bestnet2' with Fantastic Worlds. All flags are from Michael D. Raney's allflags collection. Icons are cobbled
from 'Crises,' Academia's 'Iron Curtain,' Charles Kimball's 'Southeast Asia,'and MicroProse's 'Samurai.' Thanks all mentioned!
