ReadMe2.txt for Conan Scenario. This contains general info that Conan would know, and some advice for playing the scenario, but is not a detailed walkthrough.

There are 9 challenging objectives in this scenario. But you start with one, and you may find some others easy if you have the right units and strategies. You can play it like a bloodlust scenario; building up good cities, advances, units and so on. But you will probably not have time to conquer every village (Conan never conquered Hyboria). The scenario has some unusual areas and a large event file to make you think a little, but mainly just have fun!

You will get a few irreplaceable units, or units that are distant in your tech tree. Risk them when you must, but don't waste them too early. Your Conan unit can recover from deadly blows a few times, but this costs you time, and if he finally dies, a decisive victory is unlikely. Also, remember that killing a hermit will bring down a curse on you (but you might live thru it - keep playing!).

You might think Conan wouldn't care much for science, but even he appreciates a good steel blade. The scenario is long enough that advances matter. You'll have many good options, and not enough time for them all. At the start, your units are severely lacking in certain skills [eg naval, diplomatic, arcane, etc] but Conan would probably want Valerian Steel first. You'll probably take Wonders more often than make them, but you can do both.

1) In the early stages, you will have to defend against the barbarian Picts to the West and North, who must have just found some dark arcane ally. Your hillmen units are useful against their wolves in the tundra, and your Black Legions can fight snakes in the forests. Eventually, you can probably blunt their raids. Then you can take most of their villages, if you think it is worth the time. You won't be able to completely wipe them out - they are barbarians, like you. Veletrium and Gunderland are producing special units, and if you change their production you can't change back (until you get the tech you need).

2) You can take Jerida quickly. Watch out for the famed Zingaran navy, which may want it back. Zingara's capitol Kordava can't be taken so easily, but it is an objective city. Note the text messages and find a plan.

3) Nemedia is Aquilonia's main economic and military rival. You will need many good units to take this great land and its capitol, Belverus. While Nemedia is no longer known for its sorcery, the lost city of Python is rumoured to hold many treasures of gold and lore. The king does not defend it, but it is rumoured to be haunted by demons of iron, which must NOT be awakened!

4) Argos is a land of sailors, merchants and farmers. This is the only king you can really hope to talk to. Of course, you may prefer to kill him and take his lands. But don't forget that his naval abilities even exceed Zingara's.

5) Zamora is a poor desert countryin the East, dominated by Turan (not part of this scenario), but its hill fighters are fierce. They worship the mysterious spider god Zoth in Arenjun, the City of Thieves. Zoth is effectively immortal, but might be defeated temporarily by a great hero in battle.

The Conan story "People of the Black Circle" is centered around the magical fortress of Yimsha, one of your harder objectives. In the story, Conan defeats the dark Masters by dodging weird cloudballs and smashing a magical glass sphere. For you, this may take some thought and patience. If you find the Yimsha area, and can't take it in 15 turns or so, try the readme3 file. [There is a small chance my events file is not working right for you].

6) In the South, Stygia relies mainly on outdated military units such as chariots, but also hosts the world's most powerful necromancers, none greater than Thoth Amon. You may find him at the Oasis of Khajar, your most distant objective. You will probably need your Conan unit, and more, for this fight.

7) The Black Ones are allied with the Picts in this scenario. They dwell on a distant island in the South. They don't like visitors much, so you will need strong ships and units if you want this objective. Warning - you may not have time to shuttle Conan there and back unless your other campaigns go unusually well,
