^Having bore the brunt of the fighting on the European continent,
the French Army is a broken force. Morale is abysmal. French 
soldiers are badly fed, badly doctored, wretchedly housed, and 
poorly treated. In April of 1917, Nivelle, the French commander, 
orders yet another new offensive.
^
^The broken and demoralized soldiers of the French Army, however, 
will have none of it. They mutiny. As the day for the offensive 
comes, the French soldiers sit in their trenches and refuse to 
advance across no man's land to commit suicide against enemy 
positions. Collective indiscipline, or mutiny, has paralyzed the 
French Army.

a massive new offensive, greater than all of their previous 
offensives combined. Hundreds of barrels, thousands of heavy 
artillery, and millions of gray-green-clad Yankee soldiers press 
the offensive against the Canadians and the Confederates.

^In the capital, Theodore Roosevelt, the president of the 
United States, attends the Remembrance Day festivities, complete 
with military parades.
^
^"Listen!" Roosevelt shouted to the crowd, pointing south, "Do 
you know what that is?" As the crowd becomes silent, the 
reverberations of artillery from the front can be heard. "I will 
tell you," Roosevelt thundered. "That is the sound of our heavy 
guns, shelling the forces of the Confederate States still on U.S. 
soil. We are also shelling them on their own territory, and the 
Canadians and the British in the north. This is a Remembrance 
Day they shall remember forever, yes remember with fear and 
trembling!"
