The Rise of Rome Readme
=======================

IMPORTANT:
Because I didn't want this scenario to be of an undownloadable largeness, I
did NOT include any sound effects, thus the game will use the standard Civ-
-sound effects, which may give very strange and illogical effects.
JUST TURN YOUR SOUNDS OFF or make your own ones and feel free to add them to
the ZIP file and distribute it. Thank you very much.

A scenario by Microprose, revised by Allard H.S. Hfelt (AHSHofelt@compus
erve.com). If copied, this .ZIP file MUST contain all the files it originally
contained (as described at the end of this text file). I am not responsible for
any damage, malfunction, etc. this scenario may cause. The scenario itself
is created by Microprose, but all other files than the .scn files are
created by me. They contain icons created by myself or from many places
on the Internet. You may use any of my units (marked with AHS) in your
scenario, and probably most of the other units, but I cannot guarantee that,
for they aren't created by me. Thanks to you all (I can't credit anyone,
because I have forgotten and they're too many). I only remember Michael H.
Nielsen for making a great deal of the units and terrains used.

Installation:
-------------
This scenario is designed for version 2.7.81 (the version of the Fantasy Worlds
scenario disk), but is also playable with version 2.62 (the version of the
Conflicts in Civilization scenario disk). Without any of these scenario disks,
you can better play the standard Microprose rome.scn.

With Fantasy scenario disk: Just make a directory in your \civ2\scenario
directory named riserome. Unzip all files into this directory. Start Civ2,
select "Begin Scenario", go to \civ2\scenario\riserome\ and highlight
ROME.SCN.

With v2.62: Do the same as above, but delete the events.txt. For the rest,
it should work fine, but HAS NOT BEEN TESTED !!!

Background Information:
-----------------------
This scenario is the same as the standard rome.scn, already available with
the standard game, and created by Microprose. However, this version has been
completely modified... The tech tree is slightly modified, all buildable units
are new and look really good. Especially the terrain is completely new. New
icons, cursors, rules, etc. etc.
To quote Microprose: "Half the fun is finding out..."

The scenario is designed for Emperor level, and every civilization has a
good starting point, with enough cities, more than enough military units,
and plenty of possibilities.
However, for most fun it is advised that you play Romans or Carthaginians.
It is not advised for any player to cheat, for this spoils the entire game.

History:
--------
In the 50 years since the conquests of Alexander the Great, the civilized
world has become virtually a Greek world. Alexander's premature death in
323 B.C. provoked a series of wars among his generals for the control of
an empire that stretched from Southern Italy to India.

Eventually it was subdivided into three relatively stable kingdoms ruled
by the descendants of three of his generals, Seleucus's kingdom in Asia,
Ptolemy's kingdom in Africa, and Antigonus's kingdom in Europe. They
coexist harmoniously with the great mercantile power, Carthage, based in
north-western Africa. The only serious threats to peace springs from
periodic invasions of the warlike Celts of central Europe.

Recently, however, a small republic with the unassuming name of Rome has
emerged from several centuries of regional warfare as the dominant power
of the Italian peninsula. The stage is now set for a stunning series of
campaigns in which Rome, historically, conquered, in turn, the western
Greeks, Carthage, the Celts, and, finally, the three Greek empires to
become master of the Western world.

Thanks to:

Microprose (for this cool game)
Compuserve (for giving me Internet access)
Unkown (for having many, many icons)
...
And of course 2 U, as a player of this scenario. I hope you like it (I do).
I'm glad you've actually completely read this file (I didn't expect it, because
I don't ever read these stupid readmes but I really had to make it I thought to
make this scenario complete).
