HOW TO INSTALL THE MOD WITH NO NAME

If you have experience installing comprehensive modifications, do by all means go ahead. This is the simple version for people who want step by step instructions.

1. BACK UP some files on your computer. Specifically, right-click, NEW > FOLDER, name it Backup, and put it in your Civilization III directory. Now move the following files from your CURRENT Civ III game to it: civ3mod.bic, /Art/units/units_32.pcx, /Art/resources.pcx, /Text/PediaIcons.txt, /Text/Civilopedia.txt. You will need these to undo the modification.

2. Create a new folder. Name it anything you like. Extract all the contents of the zip into that folder.

3. Move civ3mod.bic to the Civilization III directory.

4. Move PediaIcons.txt and Civilopedia.txt to the /Civilization III/Text folder, where you already backed up your old files by those names.

5. Move resources.pcx to the Art folder, where you already backed up your old resources.pcx.

6. Move units_32.pcx to the Art/units folder, where you already backed up your old units_32.pcx.

7. Go to the Art/Units folder. Right-click on the Galley folder. Choose Copy, then Paste. This should create a folder called Copy of Galley.

8. Rename that folder Coracle. Open the folder. Inside, locate the file Galley.INI. Change its name to Coracle.INI. DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF ANYTHING ELSE INSIDE THAT FOLDER! I *know* the rest of the files still say Galley. Don't worry about it.

9. Repeat 7 and 8, copying the left-column folder, and renaming the folder and INI with the right-column name. For example, right click on Swordsman, paste it to create a Copy of Swordsman, then rename that file Brigand and the INI file inside Brigand.INI. Leave all the other files as they are, just as you did above with Galley.

Swordsman..................Brigand
Horseman................Highwayman
Musketman.............Frontiersman
Knight.................Man-At-Arms
Cavalry..............Light Cavalry
Tank....................Light Tank
Infantry..................Partisan
Marine...................Guerrilla
Destroyer........Missile Destroyer
AEGIS Cruiser..............Cruiser
Carrier...............Supercarrier
Jet Fighter.........Strike Fighter
Jet Fighter....Interceptor Fighter

Yes, I could have included it all in the zip, but that would make it one GIANT attachment, and why do it when you have all the files you need already?

10. Create an entirely new folder in the Art/Units folder. Name it Attack Chopper. NOT "Attack Helicopter", ATTACK CHOPPER. You are now going to install BlueO's Attack Chopper. Just so I make sure I give proper credit, this is BlueO's creation. Great work.

11. Move the AttackChopperDefault.flc, AttackChopperAttack.flc, AttackChopperDeath.flc, HelicopterAttack.amb and Attack Chopper.INI files to this folder.

12. Open your Helicopter folder and copy every .WAV file in that folder to the Attack Chopper folder.

13. Move the 66AttackChoppersmall.pcx and 66AttackChopperlarge.pcx files to the Art/Civilopedia/Icons/Units folder.

14. Close all the windows and play. Installation should be complete at that point. BUT WAIT!

Five BIG things you need to know, and likely common questions:

a) THERE ARE PEOPLE HEADS ON EDUCATION AND BANKING!

Well yes, there are. They're markers showing when the specialists become available.

b) ALL THE BIG TECH ICONS IN THE CIVILOPEDIA ARE WRONG!

Yes, because the fix is too time consuming. If you really want to fix it, go to Art/tech chooser/icons, and change the number beside each -large.pcx up by four. Not the small ones, just the large ones.

c) WARRIOR CODE'S CIVILOPEDIA ENTRY CRASHES THE GAME!

Yes, it does. Bug with editor. See a1 above. Just don't look at it. It gives you archers.

d) THE ATTACK CHOPPER HAS THE WRONG SMALL ICON!

Yep. It would be nice if someone could edit that into one of the empty spaces in units_32.pcx.

e) THE TECH TREE ARROWS POINT NOWHERE!

The backgrounds of the tech trees are .pcx files, which I cannot edit at this moment. I'll get around to it when I can edit them, or the Art people can get around to that later. It's an alpha version.

Here's the info for the floating techs:

Animal Husbandry: Requires Pottery, but is not needed for Map Making. It's hard to see from its position.

Diplomacy: requires Map Making, Literature, Philosophy, and Code of Laws.

Crop Rotation: no requirements.

Nautical Tradition: requires Engineering.

Amphibious War: requires Nationalism.
