Dear Civs,
The scenario that came with the game, wwii.scn inspired me to create a
similiar WWII setting for the Japanese, wwiijap.scn. To keep the level
excitement as in the first, I had ensured that I did the all details, from
proper city improvements, advances to diplomatic relations between countries
so that you don't get things like the Allies bashing French or Japanese
exchanging hi-tech advancement from Allies. I like the tension in the
scenario, would the Russians and Allies attack you? They will be lurking
around really close when you are outnumbered, outarmored and outgunned. Up
to you to handle the diplomacy.
Things to point out for the scenario:-
1) Map is modified from the original pacific.mp downloaded.
2) Due to limitation of number of civilisation, French Indochina and
   Dutch Indonesia is under the same colour and Lhasa(Tibet) is considered 
   under Chinese rule when it was not during WWII.
3) During the 1930's, it is a period of power struggle between the Chinese
   Communist Party(Mao) and the Kuomintang(Chiang). The best government
   to describe the situation I would say it is anarchy instead of democracy
   but I opted for communism as to allow China to put up a decent fight
   and the game gave me Mao anyway so it was for convenience sake too.
4) Japanese should be monarchy but I put fundamentalism due to the
   fanatical devotion of the people to their emperor and of course to
   allow Japan to maximise war production.
5) There is a bug in the scenario.(Calm down! Nothing serious!) Under the
   Kingdom menu, the Find City command(ctrl-c) would cause the game to exit
   Civ2. There will be no problem when playing English(but you are suppose
   to play Japanese!). May be due to large number of cities(218!!) I don't
   use this command anyway, hopefully you don't. The city list for
   individual civilisation obtainable during Check Inteligence in Foreign
   Minister menu is not affected. Note:I'm playing ver2.41.
6) The scenario is 240 turns long which is more than enough to conquer
   all 218 cities. Each turn represent one month, so Land of the Rising
   Sun has 20 years to accomplish her task. You may get bogged down in
   crowded China and India where it is highly populated i.e. a lot of
   partisans. Tip: siege the city first so that partisan can't pop up or
   occupy city terrain that gives high defense bonus(partisan loves those
   spots) If there are a lot of units in a walled city, siege every shield
   producing square so that the city got her units disbanded.
7) Included with the scenario is my units.gif, rules.txt plus 3 wave files
   to enable 3 custom units (not necessary for wwiijap.scn) which are:-
   a) Mobile Fortress(Heavy Armor)-Tough, powerful but slow, an idea rip off
      straight from Battle Isle. A/D/M=12/8/2, HP/FP=4/2, Cost=140
   b) SSM Launcher(Missile Warfare)-from C&C of course. This mobile surface-
      to-surface missile launcher fires a salvo  9 rockets over city wall
      hence ignoring city wall effect. Advantage of howitzer, mobility
      of armor but weak and costly. A/D/M=10/4/3, HP/FP=2/2, Cost=100
   c) Laser Tank(Laser Weaponry)-idea from The Laser advance that allow
      SDI Defense. Basically an armor with a boosted firepower but with 
      a higher price tag of course. A/D/M=12/5/3, HP/FP=3/2, Cost=100
   Original custom unit picture was obtained from Net and modified 
   especially for the Imperator. Check prerequisites from rules.txt.
8) And also included is america.mp(nothing to do with wwiijap.scn) Created
   in a different style from the rest, a sort of isometric view. Play
   the Babylons on the west coast of South America. With limited ground to
   expand compare to the rest due to desert and hill, see how well you can
   do. I was lagging behind 2 other civilisations, in term of size and
   advancement(about 10) but manage to secure the important wonders.
   Finish the game at Emperor level with 315%.
   Two tips to get hi score,
   a) Be the only civilisations standing.
   b) Create a lot of happy citizen by converting to democracy and drag
      luxury rate to max before endgame!
That's about it I guess. The original wwii.scn was wonderful since it is 
good  & I am a wargamer anyway. Finish it at Deity level, 444% with no 
cheats! Save, try, load or loading back is considered cheating too! My 
score is 222% if I spare the last city, walk into it to double score!
Set tax at 70%(rich!), luxury at 30% once I had researched the advance I 
really need. Can simply steal technology(especially Robotics for howitzer)
from the Allies. I hit Russia first then British Isle. With lots of gold I
can incite revolt cities in Russia(cheap since Moscow has fallen) that
help speed my advance east till the last city at the far corner. Take 
Southampton(relatively easier to London!) to establish a base on the British
Isles. Nuke does come in handy for tackling US. Use paratroopers and air power
to help capture all cities in the Middle East region especially for isolated
ones(Tehran, Basra).
About a year ago, I submitted a suggestion to SSI to create a game similiar
to Panzer General style but instead of focusing on seperate battles I
propose that an entire world map be drawn and starting from Germany you
fight your way through to world domination. You shall decide where to
attack, make allies, etc and I would like such game entitled
'Panzer World Tour' to be made.
Unfortunately they said that they had created two general series on WWII
already and unlikely to do anymore and is now busy with Fantasy/Star General.
I can say this is one reason I took on the task of creating the scenario
representing one half of the world on the Pacific side as Micropose had
created the other half. I just like things on a grand world scale!
