Hi all,
One thing we might have forgotten:
As we settle into new systems, we will have the chance to rename the star.
If you want to rename, like to honour certain persons or whatever, please vote Yes.
If you don't want to rename, vote no![]()
If you don't care you can choose Abstain/Banana.
Please also feel free to post suggestionsor
if you don't like my idea

Don't care

Never bothered to rename, so banana for me.

We should have a system for naming them if we are going to rename them.
My idea for renaming:
Open a thread, where everyone can post his suggestion and it is being worked from top downwards. And to be fair to everyone, we could post like in a succession-game, one after the other.

Well, I usually rename certain systems. Like I will rename all ultra-rich systems with names of precious stones. Artifact systems are named after famous scientists. Rich systems get names of "somethingstone", where something is a colour (which includes golden and silver, etc.).
Poor and ultra-poor planets have names like crap, poop, etc.![]()

UR's idea is good, I've done something similar myself.
"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work...After eight years of this Administration, we have just as much unemployment as when we started... And an enormous debt to boot!" — Henry Morgenthau, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Treasury secretary, 1941.
As far as I can see, a majority is for renaming. So which way shall we go?
Yes, we should rename stars.... hell, that's half the fun.

What's the limit for characters in a name? We should come up with a way to identify all the major characteristics of a planet in the name if we want to do an "official" renaming scheme. If not, maybe we should start the thread Gilgamensch suggested and just have everyone post planet names there then go down the list as needed.
The length is not fixed, it depends on the location of the system. If another one is to close, it might be only 4 letters.
But it is in the range of 4-8 letters.

It's definately more than that -- unless the tag bumps another star, as you said.

Ugh. That could make this a difficult process, then. I'd hate to run polls for every star system.![]()

How about whomever is playing at the time, names them or not as they see fit.
That sounds like a good opportunity for political back scratching. I like it.![]()
Sounds like a good reason to complain about the Pres![]()
Even better... new administrations can creatively RE-name already named systems to change with the new ideological times... think St. Petersburg -> Leningrad -> St. Petersburg.![]()

And here I was thinking of using something similiar to the Civ 3 Demogame.
"Ghengisplanet"
Just kidding............![]()

Or we could specify a system method such as
Three letters for former name -- Dra (Draconis)
A number for planets -- 3 with a slash for potential planets (asteroids & gas giants)
With key letters for descripters -- R = Rich, A = Average, L = large, H = Huge, etc.
In fact, we might limit ourselves to only one letter of best feature per planet, Average or better, thus a string of four or five letters (Dra 4/5 GRRH) would display a terrific system, and a Dra 1/3 would have a boring planet with two potential planets and Dra 0/0 would have no planets at all.

Hey, if you wanna name systems Borg-style when you're able to name them, be my guest. I'll just re-name them to something with a bit more style![]()

I like stuff like the "Big Blue Blob". That would work for a planet name.............

Old n Slow if I was to rename them, I probably would use some sort of system like you suggest.
In Space Empires I name my ships like that CA-I2 to denote it is a crusier with 2 I type engines. I may add other characters to let me know what the type of weapons. This makes it easy to see what ones need upgrades.

/me thinks at least one planet needs to be named "Bob"......

Let's start with our home system:
How shall we call our home system?

If we have multiple planets they can be Big Bob and Little Bob and Bobette.
Besides Apolyton already got voted down once for our starting system name.
We can only name the system AFAIR........ not the planets......Originally posted by GhengisFarb
