You may remember my previous thread about the Y'z Dock, which is a nifty little QuickLaunch-replacement thing.

It is now no longer in development, and is not allowed to be distributed anymore because Apple's legal team decided to be *******s (again).

About the stop of development\distribution of Y'z Dock

I received the warning of piracy from Apple Computer, Inc.

I admitted that "Y'z Dock" was imitation of "Dock". And I decided to stop development and distribution of "Y'z Dock". This stop is lasting. It is NEVER resumed.

Moreover, I do not permit re-distributing "Y'z Dock" by others. Please NEVER re-distribute "Y'z Dock".

And this warning act by Apple Computer, Inc. is lawful and just. Please NEVER slander this warning.

Thank you for your understanding.

I apologize to Apple Computer, Inc. and the persons concerned.

Considering the fact, that Microsoft stole the whole Winblows design from Apple it's a bit understandable that they're wary of piracy now. But I agree.

PC-DOS is a blatant rip-off of CP/M, so Apple should take this leaf from Billg's book.

I'm *****ing because I loved Y'z Dock and I wanted more updates as the guy had promised.

And because Apple is full of *******s, that'll never happen.

It's such a scumbag company. Even Microsoft doesn't do **** like that, I don't see them issuing a cease & desist about the GTK Redmond95 theme...

actually, apple's practices regarding software have been less than generous.

often, many third party extensions and hacks are destroyed when apple co-opts them and embeds them into the os. i pity the third-party developer for mac, because not only is the market small, there's apple to contend with.

Apple drives many of their 3rd party developers away with their first-party products. It's the exact same problem Nintendo has.

And neither of them seems bright enough to do anything about it.

Nintendo and Apple both have shrinking marketshare, so I wonder how long it'll take them to clue in this probably isn't the best route?

Nintendo's a pretty mean company too, remember when they sued Blockbuster to try to get them to stop renting games?

in a way, i don't really care too much about it. i did want to try out the program, but i'm spending more and more time playing linux, with kde/superkaramba, and so it's nice.

the reason why i like nintendo better than apple is because of metroid prime and super smash brothers. does apple have that? NOoooooOOOOoooooooOoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!1111111111

Ummmm actually the software that they stopped from being made only works for pcs. So it has no real effect, this case.

The company in question, to my knowledge, makes no software for macs.

It's not a company...it's a single guy from Asia who does it in his free time.

Of course this is "lawful" and "just", but it's stupid -- Apple gains nothing from doing it except for pissing more people off. Which is why it's a boneheaded move, one typical of Apple.
