    Chapter 15

    Richard Cory
    Simon and Garfunkel

They say that Richard Cory owns one half of this whole town,
With political connections to spread his wealth around.
Born into society, a banker's only child,
He had everything a man could want: power, grace, and style.

But I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm living
    And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be,
Oh, I wish that I could be,
Oh, I wish that I could be
    Richard Cory.

The papers print his picture almost everywhere he goes:
Richard Cory at the opera, Richard Cory at a show.
And the rumor of his parties and the orgies on his yacht!
Oh, he surely must be happy with everything he's got.

But I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm living
    And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be,
Oh, I wish that I could be,
Oh, I wish that I could be
    Richard Cory.

He freely gave to charity, he had the common touch,
And they were grateful for his patronage and thanked him very much,
So my mind was filled with wonder when the evening headlines read:
"Richard Cory went home last night and put a bullet through his head."

But I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm living
    And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be,
Oh, I wish that I could be,
Oh, I wish that I could be
    Richard Cory.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

He also hates Texans and Australians, he does diversify." ~ Braindead

    FOREVER AUTUMN
Written by Paul Vigrass, Gary Osborne and Jeff Wayne

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old
And darker days are drawing near
The winter winds will be much colder
    Now you're not here

I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
And one by one they disappear.
I wish that I was flying with them
    Now you're not here

Like a song through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away...

Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way
You always loved this time of year.
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
    'Cause you're not here

Like a song throught the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away...

A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes
As if to hide a lonely tear
My life will be forever autumn
    'Cause you're not here
"I read a book twice as fast as anybody else. First, I read the beginning, and then I read the ending, and then I start in the middle and read toward whatever end I like best." - Gracie Allen

Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right (3 times)
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
Preacher man don't tell me heaven is under the earth
I know you don't know what life is really worth
Is not all that glitters in gold and
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light, aay
Stand up for your right. Come on
Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
      (Repeat)
Most people think great God will come from the sky
Take away ev'rything, and make ev'rybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You would look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your right, yeah!
Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
Get Up, Stand Up. Life is your right
So we can't give up the fight
Stand up for your right, Lord, Lord
Get Up, Stand Up. Keep on struggling on
      Don't give up the fight
We're sick and tired of your ism and skism game
Die and go to heaven in Jesus' name, Lord
      We know when we understand
Almighty God is a living man
You can fool some people sometimes
But you can't fool all the people all the time
So now we see the light
We gonna stand up for our right
So you'd better get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight.
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
      Once again...

        Mother Europe (Ancient Rites)

Oh remember the proud Hellenic civilisation
The cradle of Europe where it all began
Or the Portuguese and Spanish Armada
Overwhelming Thy power, a tribute to the South

Bruges, Antwerp, Ghent forever in my heart
        Representing medieval Flemish pride

Brave Teutonic, French and English knights
Thy shining armour now long vanished
        Thy glory, however, forever remains
        Praised be the Scandinavian hordes,
The nightmare of the Christian world

I talk of not of mercy
        I talk not of fear
The hopeless warriors of a Willing Doom
I talk of not of mercy
        I talk not of fear
The hopeless warriors of a Willing Doom

        Children of Italia
In ancient times "Roma Caput Mundi"
De Verenigde Nederlanden, parel van het noorden
Belgium (and The) Netherlands stood as one

        Stood as one!
        Stood as one!

Mother Europe, born from your womb
Mother Europe, on your soil shall be my tomb

I talk of not of mercy
        I talk not of fear
The hopeless warriors of a Willing Doom

Oh what that gallant spirit shall resume
        Leap from Europa's bank
        Call Thee from the tomb

Mother Europe, born from your womb
Mother Europe, on Your soil shall be my tomb
        Shall be my tomb

I talk of not of mercy
        I talk not of fear
The hopeless warriors of a Willing Doom

Oh what that gallant spirit shall resume
Leap from Europa's bank and call Thee from the tomb
And call Thee from the tomb
And call Thee from the tomb

(Hail to the sons of Eastern Europe
        the Slavonian soul never fades)
        Praised be the Scandinavian hordes
Once the nightmare of the Christian world
Blessed are Scotland, Ireland and Bretagne
Where the Celtic dream still lives on

I talk of not of mercy
        I talk not of fear
The hopeless warriors of a Willing Doom

        Shall be my tomb!

Beneath The Howling Stars (Cradle of Filth)

Midwinter wrongs the rites of Spring
Her spinal chill rakes the earth
Whilst pensive souls at zero sing
        Woebetidings of rebirth
Under cold stares of Mars maligned
        Near-suicides cross their hearts
And unborns writhe in tepid brine
For something wicked this way starts

        Beneath the howling stars

        Elizabeth, paragon of vice
Watches the sun set pyres alight
As Bane and Tyranny, Her Dobermans sleep
Like spellbound paramours at Her feet

        A chatter of bells without
        Raise hellhounds, teeth on edge
From sleighs hastened through snow lit red
Guests espied from the garret ledge

Great gloomy mirror tell Her face
        She will outblind them all
That heavenly bodies would fall from grace
To possess such a lustrous pall

        For beauty is always Cruel...
        For beauty is always...

        (Let destiny in chains commence...
        Damnation under Gods seeking recompense
Enslaving to the whims of this mistress)

        As the dance ensued
        Elizabeth's mood
Tempered by the craft of a vitreous moon
In slick black iciness it grew
        To consume
        The wench Her tower tombed
        Tending to Her costume
Bore the brunt of the storm
        When the needle askewed
She has Her dogs maul the *****'s wrists through
        Restored to jaded bliss
        This evisceratrix
        Descended to the ball
With painted blood upon Her lips
Passing like a comet so white
        As to eclipse
        The waltz wound down, transfixed

Devoid of all breath in the air
        Even Death paled to compare
To the taint of Her splendour
        So rare and engendered
        'Pon the awed throng gathered
        There...

        Beneath the howling stars

        She danced so macabre
Men entranced divined from Her gait
That this angel stepped from a pedestal
        Had won remission from fate
        By alighting to darker spheres
        Delighting in held sway
For She was not unlike the Goddess
        To whom the wolves bayed

        "Whilst envy glanced daggers
        From court maidens, arboured
        Who whispered in sects
        Of suspicions abroad
        That Elizabeth bewitched
See how even now the whore casts
Her spells upon the Black Count
Whom Her reddened lips hold fast"

        Tongue unto tongue
        Swept on tides without care
        For the harpies who rallied
        Their maledict glares
A halo of ravens tousled Her hair
        Chandeliers a tiara
        For passions ensnared

        "Phantasies sexed
        When their eyes, moonstruck met
        Their friction wore a way
        Through the sea of foreplay
        Lovers at first bite
She an Eve tempted to lay
        Gasping at rafters
        Flesh pressed in ballet"

        But caprice, honours leashed
        She absconded the feast
        To prowl wonderland
Beasts in hand from the Keep
        Of Feudal dilemma
        Well mantled in furs
        Through cullis to watch
        Dogstars howl at the earth

        On this violent night
        Unholy night
        Winds lashed their limbs together
As the ether vent its wintry spite

She wished His kiss on Her frozen landscapes
        To excite the bleak advance
        From castle bowers
        Wherein small hours
The Devil never came by chance
A lone charm tied to Her inner thigh
Sent lusts nova as hooves trod
        Cobbled streets where lowlives fleet
Were flung to a wayward god

Midwinter wrongs the rites of Spring
Her spinal chill rakes the earth
Whilst pensive souls at zero sing
        Woebetidings of rebirth
Under cold stares of Mars maligned
        Near-suicides cross their hearts
And unborns writhe in tepid brine
For something wicked this way starts

        Beneath the howling stars

        Pounding upon the pauper ridge
        Earshot of a hunched beldame
Elizabeth teased, would He dare to please
        Such elderly loins enflamed?
To this He feigned a grim disdain
        Playing to Her slayful eye
        But the hag replied...

        "This girl that chides
Will soon be as plagued with age as I"

Her consort laughed a plume of icy breath
        For Elizabeth's grace could raise
A flag of truce in burning heaven
Or the dead from early graves
        Yet still She seethed
        This proud Snow Queen
        Embittered with the cursed retort
And because He sought Her loves onslaught
He gutted the crone for sport

Soon in full moon fever they were wed
        Lycanthropic in the conjugal bed
        Littered with aphrodisiacs
        To tease dynastic union
        And beget them further maniacs

        Elizabeth
        Free reigned, now a Countess
        Outwielded and outwore
Her title like a favoured dress
        Whilst Her errant Lord
        Whose seasons savoured war
Stormed black to fell the infidel
        Her embers, tempered, roared.

            Beer For My Horses
            Toby Keith with Willie Nelson

Well a man come on the 6 o’clock news
Said somebody’s been shot, somebody’s been abused
            Somebody blew up a building
            Somebody stole a car
            Somebody got away
Somebody didn’t get too far yeah
            They didn’t get too far

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
We’ve got too much corruption, too much crime in the streets
It’s time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send ’em all to their maker and he’ll settle ’em down
You can bet he’ll set ’em down ’cause

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses
Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

              Drive
              Alan Jackson

It was painted red the strip was white
It was eighteen feet from the bow to stern light
Secondhand from a dealer in Atlanta
I rode up with daddy when he went there to get her
We put on a shine, put on a motor
Built out of love, made for the water
Ran her for years, 'til the transom got rotten
A piece of my childhood that will never be forgotten

It was just and old plywood boat
With a '75 Johnson with electric choke
A young boy two hands on the wheel
I can't replace the way it made me feel
And I would turn her sharp
And I would make her whine
He'd say, "you can't beat the way an old wood boat rides"
Just a little lake across the Alabama line
But I was king of the ocean
              When daddy let me drive

Just an old half ton shortbed Ford
My uncle bought new in '64
Daddy got it right 'cause the engine was smoking
A couple of burnt valves and he had it going
He let me drive her when we'd haul off a load
Down a dirt strip where we'd dump trash off of Thigpen Road
I'd sit up in the seat and stretch my feet out to the pedals
Smiling like a hero that just received his medal

It was just and old hand-me-down Ford
With a three-speed on the column and a dent in the door
A young boy two hands on the wheel
I can't replace the way it made me feel
And I would press that clutch
And I would keep it right
And he'd say, "a little slower son you're doing just fine"
Just a dirt road with trash on each side
              But I was Mario Andretti
              When daddy let me drive

I'm grown up now three daughters of my own
I let them drive my old Jeep across the pasture at our home
Maybe one day they'll reach back in their file
And pull out that old memory
And think of me and smile and say

It was just and old worn out Jeep
Rusty old floorboard, hot on my feet
A young girl two hands on the wheel
I can't replace the way it made me feel
And he'd say, "turn it left and steer it right,
Staighten up girl, you're doing just fine"
Just a little valley by the river where we'd ride
But I was high on a mountain
              When daddy let me drive

              When daddy let me drive

              Oh he let me drive

              Daddy let me drive

It's just and old plywood boat
With a '75 Johnson with electric choke
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
              - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

                Two For Tuesday; Dwight Yoakam

                I Sang Dixie

I sang Dixie as he died
The people just walked on by as I cried
The bottle had robbed him of all his rebel pride
So I sang Dixie as he died

He said way down yonder in the land of cotton
Old times there ain't near as rotten as they are
On this damned old L.A. street
Then he drew a dying breath
And laid his head against my chest
Please Lord take his soul back home to Dixie

                Chorus

He said listen to me son while you still can
Run back home to that Southern land
Don't you see what life here has done to me?
Then he closed those old blue eyes
And fell limp against my side
No more pain, now he's safe back home in Dixie

                Chorus:

I sang Dixie as he died
The people just walked on by as I cried
The bottle had robbed him of all his rebel pride
So I sang Dixie as he died
I sang Dixie as he died

                A Thousand Miles From Nowhere

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
                Time don't matter to me
'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
And there's no place I want to be

I got heartaches in my pocket
I got echoes in my head
And all that I keep hearing
Are the cruel cruel things that you said

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
                Time don't matter to me
'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
And there's no place I want to be
                Oh, I
                Oh, I
                Oh, I
                Oh, I
                Oh, I
                Oh, I
                Oh, I
                Oh, I

I got bruises on my memory
I got tear stains on my hands
And in the mirror there's a vision
Of what used to be a man

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
                Time don't matter to me
'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
And there's no place I want to be

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
                Time don't matter to me
'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
And there's no place I want to be

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
                Time don't matter to me
'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
And there's no place I want to be

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
                Time don't matter to me
'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
And there's no place I want to be

I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
                Time don't matter to me
'Cause I'm a thousand miles from nowhere
And there's no place I want to be
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

                  Two for Tuesday: Alisha's Attic

                  Incidentals

It's just the little things, The Incidentals,
It's like you wouldn't even notice when you really turn me on,
It's the little sparks that fly and then land like dynamite,
It's just, it's just the simple things, pure incidentals,
It's like stayin' up 'till midnight and talkin' about ... absolutely nothing.
It's the thought that it'll always be as wild as I expect it to be, yeah.
Oooo, you know it's la la la la love, when you dream,
A monster just swallowed you up and you don't wanna be saved.
Oooo and I am crazy about you babe,
You satisfy me in so many ways, so many ways.

But it's just the little things, The Incidentals (bada ba bup)
It's like you wouldn't even notice when you were really turnin' me on,
It's those little sparks that fly and then land like dynamite,
It's just, it's just the simple things, pure incidentals,
It's like breathin' on the back of my neck and makin' me feel weak inside.
It's no, no matter how scared I, scared I am (I'm safe) I know I'll be safe tonight (yeaah yeaaah).

Oooo, you know it's la la la la love, when you dream,
A monster just swallowed you up and you don't wanna be saved.
Ooooooooo and I am crazy about you babe,
You satisfy me in so many ways, so many ways,
Mmm, so many ways, I can't count the ways.

                  (Oooo, oooo)
                  (Bada ba bup)
                  (Oooo, oooo)
It's the thought that it'll always be as wild as I expect it to be
And it's just the little things, pure incidentals,
It's like you wouldn't even notice when you were really turnin' me on,
It's those little sparks that fly and then land like dynamite yeah, (yeaah yeaaah)
It's those little sparks that fly and then land like dynamite, yeah.

                  Push It All Aside

We have got to stop fighting
We have got to learn to get along
We have got to know for a relationship in heaven
We've got to tame the devils on our tongues

Oh it gets harder every time, we both cross the invivible line
It feels like we're on two different planets
We're broken who's gonna fix us, and put us back together again

                  Chorus
So let's push it all aside
                  Take a swallow of pride
                  And realise
That nothing could be sweeter than loving each other
If we forget who was wrong and who's right

Yeah let's push it all aside
                  take a swallow of pride
                  and realise
that nothing could be sweeter than loving each other
if we forget who was wrong and who's right

We have got to stop fighting
And put our ammunition to one side
We have got ot understand exploding
isn't ever gonna close the gap between us
                  it's too wide

Oh it gets harder every day
We spit back at each other and say
It feels like we're on two different planets
But when all the damage is done
It's too late to be sorry

                  Chorus

                  So lets get some understanding
                  (ohhhh)
Just take a deep big breath and say
You can forget all the words I said
                  Keep them far away
Cos they don't mean what I meant
                  Now they're gone anyway
                  (ah)

So let's push it all aside
                  Take a swallow of pride
                  And realise
That nothing could be sweeter than loving each other
If we forget who was wrong and who's right...
"Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman

Midtown - Knew It All Along

you can say i knew it all along
that you were all i wanted
to know the pain has made you grow strong
the scars inside have made you beautiful
                    stop breathing for me
you said it's your right to shun dependence
                    and you shun
                    and you're scared to accept
                    someone to share your regrets
                    when you're aching
                    you go it alone
                    when you want to
you take what you need to make you whole
                    i know it's not easy
i know i can't feel through what you have been and trust
                    don't come easy
'cause to trust is to depend
and who wants to give up that part of them
you know you can have it
                    if you want to
                    i'll find you unrelated, cultivated
when you wake up incubated in me
                    you're free to leave
if you knew it all along

                      Lighthouse Family - Free/One Love

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
I wish I could say all the things that I should say
Say 'em loud, say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear

I wish I could share all the love that's in my heart
Remove all the bars that keep us apart
And I wish you could know how it feels to be me
                      Then you'd see and agree
That every man should be free

I wish I could be like a bird in the sky
How sweet it would be if I found I could fly
Well I'd soar to the sun and look down at the sea
And I'd sing 'cos I'd know how it feels to be free

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
And I wish I could say all the things that I wanna say
Say 'em loud, say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear
Say 'em loud, say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear
Say 'em loud, say 'em clear
                      For the whole
                      Wide world to hear

                      One love
                      One blood
                      One life
You got to do what you should
                      One life
                      With each other
                      Sisters
                      Brothers
                      One life
                      But we're not the same
We got to carry each other
                      Carry each other

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free

                        Song : Good Texan
                        Stevie Ray Vaughan

Say things to me like a cowgirl should
I'll do tricks for you like a cowboy should
You look romantic layin' in the hay
I need you tonight in a new kind of way
When you look at me with those eyes
It makes me start to fantasize

Do it to me like I know you could
So I can do it to you baby like a Texan should

Ridin' the range I think of you
I dig your chili, you know it's true
Make big money, put it in the bank
That longhorn Caddy got a real big tank

Do it to me baby like I know you could
So I can do it to you baby like A Texan should

Well, you're the kind of woman who's above the rest
Well, nothing for me but the best
You say you need a fella who really can
Do it to you good like a Texan man

                        Massive wardrobe of cowby clothes
Top of my head to the tip of my toes
Ah, you look so good in my hat with fringe on it
So put on my boots, 'mmm doggone it

Do it to me like I know you could
So I can do it to you baby like a Texan should
Do it me baby like I know you could
So I can do it to you baby like a good Texan should
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

                          Triple Shot Thursday - Semisonic

                          This Will Be My Year

Thursday's crush is a Friday night rush
                          And a Monday morning cry
It's the tail that you keep chasing
And it gets away every time
New Years eve and it's hard to believe
                          Another Zodiac's gone around
While you drank yourself high on hoping
And watched the ceiling spin from the ground

Counting down from ten it's time
                          To make your annual prayer
                          Secret Santa in the sky
When will I get my share

                          Then you tell yourself
                          What you want to hear
                          Cause you have to believe
                          This will be my year

Pound your fist and cross it off your list
But you know you're not that strong
When the man at the stop light catches you
Singing along to a brand new song

                          Well maybe it's
Trash or the overnight smash that brings your
                          Ship crashing through the wall
So you can make your grand departure
From a world getting way too small

One wheel in the ditch another
                          Spinning in the air

Put your pedal down to the floorboard but you're not
                          Getting anywhere

                          Then you tell yourself
                          What you want to hear
                          Cause you have to believe
                          This will be my year

                          Singing in my Sleep

Got your tape and it changed my mind
Heard your voice in between the lines
                          Come around from another time
                          Where nobody ever goes
                          All alone on the overpass
Wired and phoned to a heart of glass
Now I'm falling in love too fast
With you or the songs you chose

                          And all the stars
                          Play for me
Say the promise you long to keep

I can hear you sing it to me in my sleep
I can hear you sing it to me in my sleep

I've been living in your cassette
                          It's the modern equivalent
                          Singing up to a Capulet
On a balcony in your mind

In the City the lion sleeps
Pray to Sony my soul to keep
Were you ever so bright and sweet
Did you ever look so nice

                          And all the sounds
                          Dream for me
Dive me down in a soul so deep

I can hear you sing it to me in my sleep
I can hear you sing it to me in my sleep

                          Gone to the Movies

Now the rain comes down the windows and it
Drops onto the forehead of the waiting boy
He surveys his rental kingdom and he
Wonders if he's really lost his joy
Another fool would go down to the
Only place she went to lose herself
She's gone to the movies now
And she don't need your help

Now the rain turns into snowfall as the
City sky reflects the silver street below
And it covers up the cars and the Wall-
Flowers cd ended half an hour ago

Another fool would dig the broken car out from the snow
And drive to find the show
She's gone to the movies now and she's not coming home
She's gone to the movies now and she's not coming home

Now he looks around his place and anyways
There's nowhere she could sit besides the bed
And he wonders if the car will start tomorrow
Or he'll have to take the bus instead

Any other fool would be out on the roadway
Trying to spot her rusted Pontiac
She's gone to the movies now and she's not coming back
She's gone to the movies now
                          And she's not coming home...

                            Triple Shot Thursday; Harry Chapin

                            Taxi

It was raining hard in 'Frisco,
I needed one more fare to make my night.
A lady up ahead waved to flag me down,
She got in at the light.
Oh, where you going to, my lady blue,
It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain.
She just looked out the window, and said
                            "Sixteen Parkside Lane".
                            Something about her was familiar
I could swear I'd seen her face before,
But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken"
And she didn't say anything more.
It took a while, but she looked in the mirror,
And she glanced at the license for my name.
A smile seemed to come to her slowly,
It was a sad smile, just the same.
And she said, "How are you Harry?"
I said, "How are you Sue?
                            Through the too many miles
                            and the too little smiles
                            I still remember you."
It was somewhere in a fairy tale,
I used to take her home in my car.
We learned about love in the back of the Dodge,
The lesson hadn't gone too far.
You see, she was gonna be an actress,
And I was gonna learn to fly.
She took off to find the footlights,
And I took off to find the sky.
Oh, I've got something inside me,
                            To drive a princess blind.
                            There's a wild man, wizard,
He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind.
Oh, I've got something inside me,
                            Not what my life's about,
Cause I've been letting my outside tide me,
Over 'till my time, runs out.
Baby's so high that she's skying,
Yes she's flying, afraid to fall.
I'll tell you why baby's crying,
Cause she's dying, aren't we all.
There was not much more for us to talk about,
Whatever we had once was gone.
So I turned my cab into the driveway,
Past the gate and the fine trimmed lawns.
And she said we must get together,
But I knew it'd never be arranged.
And she handed me twenty dollars,
For a two fifty fare, she said
                            "Harry, keep the change."
Well another man might have been angry,
And another man might have been hurt,
But another man never would have let her go...
I stashed the bill in my shirt.
And she walked away in silence,
It's strange, how you never know,
But we'd both gotten what we'd asked for,
Such a long, long time ago.
You see, she was gonna be an actress
And I was gonna learn to fly.
She took off to find the footlights,
And I took off for the sky.
                            And here, she's acting happy,
                            Inside her handsome home.
And me, I'm flying in my taxi,
                            Taking tips, and getting stoned,
I go flying so high, when I'm stoned.

                            Cats In The Cradle

My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
                            When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
                            When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then

Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
                            When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"

And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
                            When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then

                            Saturday Morning

                            Saturday morning,
                            And it’s growing light
                            I look out my window,
                            And remember the night
                            A story is starting,
                            And this story ends.
And I feel like I need you again….

                            Time used to move softly
                            When I was at home
                            It went on without me
                            And left me alone
Now it sits at my shoulder
                            And claws at my pen
And I feel like I need you again….

                            Chorus:
                            Ooooohhhh……
A song needs a reason and rhyme
                            Ooooohhhh…..
My love needs a little more time.

                            Well I recall September,
                            The leaves turnin’ brown
                            Remember October,
                            Left leaves on the ground.
                            And here’s come December,
                            Like an elderly friend.
And I feel like I need you again….

                            Chorus

My love needs a little more time…….

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
"Hating America is something best left to Mobius. He is an expert Yank hater.
He also hates Texans and Australians, he does diversify." ~ Braindead

In light of Bob Hope's 100th,

                              Thanks For The Memory
                              Ralph Rainger and Leo Robin

                              Thanks for the memory
Of things I can't forget, journeys on a jet
Our wond'rous week in Martinique and Vegas and roulette
                              How lucky I was

                              And thanks for the memory
Of summers by the sea, dawn in Waikiki
We had a pad in London but we didn't stop for tea
                              How cozy it was

Now since our breakup I wake up
                              Alone on a gray morning-after
I long for the sound of your laughter
And then I see the laugh's on me

                              But, thanks for the memory
Of every touch a thrill, I've been through the mill
I've lived a lot and learned a lot, you loved me not and still
                              I miss you so much

                              Thanks for the memory
Of how we used to jog even in a fog
That barbecue in Malibu, away from all the smog
                              How rainy it was

                              Thanks for the memory
Of letters I destroyed, books that we enjoyed
Tonight the way things look, I need a book by Sigmund Freud
                              How brainy he was

Gone are those evenings on Broadway
Together we'd go to a great show
But now I begin with the Late Show
And wish that you were watching, too

                              I know it's a fallacy
That grown men never cry, baby, that's a lie
We had our bed of roses, but forgot that roses die
                              And thank you so much
"I read a book twice as fast as anybody else. First, I read the beginning, and then I read the ending, and then I start in the middle and read toward whatever end I like best." - Gracie Allen
