  • Great library and events technologies

Is the great library activated by event given techs?

So if the Franks and Germans acquire through an event the tech "Crusades" will the owners of the Great library(Romans) get the tech as well?

You can give the pre-req for a wonder through events. It can be given to any combination of civs, depending on how you write the event. You can give no/no techs through events if you wish. They can't be stolen, but the AI will still trade them.

If the wonder is not built, then it can be. If it's already built, then it will become activated. You can also give the tech which makes the wonder obsolete by events. In this case, it can be given to any civ and the wonder ceases to work.

Test of Time has the TakeTechnology event, which allows you to toggle wonders off and on by giving and taking it's obsolescence tech.

IIRC there's one caveat. If WoW's count as objectives, then regardless of techs, you can't choose to build a WoW from the city screen.

My qualified guess is that the romans will get the tech too, as soon as two other civs has the tech, unless it is a no,no.

You sure about this (I mean that the AI can trade the "no, no") ?

I'm pretty sure it will trade anything it has.

I thought it wasn't able to trade the no, no

Just shows how ignorant I still am...

But how do you explain then that the "civ-specific" techs (not-Germans, or not-Allied for instance) never seem to be traded? What's the trick to obtain this effect?

I need this for a scen

AFAIK, no,no-techs work in the game as if they don't exist. They don't appear in the game, and cannot be stolen nor traded. Techs derived from a no,no tech and nil can be traded and work like all other techs.

Cyrion, here is a couple of tips that will help you.

That is true, but the Great Library wonder will still function on No, No's if they are given by event. However it doesnt do anything about no, no's that's been gifted at the start by the creator.

If you have nation specific techs given at the start the library wont do anything about it. However if one of the civs is destroyed the library will "go trough" all existing techs again and gift even civ specific (no, no) techs owned by more than one civ to the owner of the library.

Hardjoy and Henrik, thanks, that's what I thought!

And I had read the text you provided (a long time ago...) but dind't want to go throught the creation of once and twice removed techs... Anyway, my tech-tree is already full!

But, re-reading the reference, something bother me:
No-no advances, and any units or improvements that it is the prerequisite for, do not appear in the Civilopedia
Is that correct? So if in my scen I give a specific tech for each Civ, and each civ can build units from the start with those techs as pre-requisite, the units won't appear in the help??

Now that would be a shame...

Edit: just re-read it, and it seems I'll need to free a slot for "twice removed"...

If you want specific units to appear in the civilopaedia just have them have as a prerequisite a "normal" tech, and make them obsolete with the unique tech.

It seems like that the Great library will not be available in my scenario.

BTW has anyone ever experienced the Great library bug where once a civ is destroyed the Great library owner gets all his techs?
