Seriously, so many people here are such hard core fans that one has to wonder... is there any way that you can be satisfied with MoO3? Can it possibly live up to your expectations? I mean sh-t... its only a game.
Day after release I'm expecting a 50/50 flame/compliment split.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

I never played any game in the series, so I think I'll approach it with a pure and interested heart.![]()

I've never played the MoO series, so I figure I'll enjoy it.

A day/week after release if its good I won't be posting. If its bad (i.e. I have serious problems) you can bet I'll be posting. Thats why the main boards are often a flaming hell for the first month.

Can't tell until I play it but I have a soft spot in my heart for the series so I'm assuming I'll like it even if it stinks.

All the hype and going ape-sh9T over the game is just for fun too. When it comes down to it, I can turn off the 'fountain of expectation' with little effort; I mean, there's so many other games out there, so its not like it will be the end of the world if MoO3 is a flop.

I imagine I will "like" the game in the sense that I "liked" EU2. I will play it a lot at first, then realize how disappointing it is and stop playing with a bad taste in my mouth. Some of the decisions made by IG just seem so similar to the fundamental flaws in EU2 that I don't think this will become my new favorite game.

Speaking of EU2, they just released another patch.

Hm, now I wonder if I did the right thing when I bought my copy of EU (the first one) one or two months ago. I never installed it (too many games to play, not enough time), but now I'm curious.

Well, whatever happens, vmxa1 has promised us a detailed review one day after he's got the game. We'll hold him to it!![]()

I'm surprised to hear that. I'll have to check it out. It can't solve the fundamental problems of the game (the one province rule and the horrible AI), but maybe it tweaked the cavalry blitzing, no allies that aren't adjacent to you, and other minor quirks with the last patch.

I expect I will love it based on what the Betatesters have said.
Of course, thats all I can base it on at present.
From all the stuff I know of the game, it seems very awesome to me....I dont expect to be disappointed. I feel it wil meet my high expectations.
I had high expectations for Civ3 and they were not met. I think I got pissed off at the corruption more than anything...and the fact that you could never gain a tech lead on emperor/deity, which is what I liked to play....and that to play well it was all aobut early rushes, a rush with every single freaking new offensive unit....to do really well at deity.
I may have liked it more had I not had Civ1/2 playstyles ingrained in me at the start....like trying to colonize with cities spread apart so that they cold all become perfect (bad in Civ3), and irrigating everything (civ 3 needs many mines), and so on...
I will learn from this and not expect moo3 to require the same playstyle as moo2/1. I will approach it as a new games with ties to old ones, and try to figure it out...and it will be a lot of fun to figure out![]()

Same here. So no matter what, Moo3 is going to be good. So what Refitting is out? So what theres no more bombs? I dont care really.
Ignorance is bliss when it comes to Moo3 it seems![]()

I must admit having become somewhat ambivalent until a few days ago when the smattering of AAR's appeared.
The detail and potential depth sparked my interest markedly.
I'm a longtime fan of the MoO series, but I still think I'll cope if MoO3 isn't as good as the expectations. If so, it will be a similar experience to MoO2. MoO2 wasn't the PHENOMENAL game for its time that MoO1 was, but MoO2 was still a very good game. It didn't live up to its hype, no, but I still enjoy it.

Having skipped MOO1 and MOO2, MOO3 will be a totally new experience. If it's as good or better than SMAC I know I'll be playing it for years to come.
I don't care how bad it is either, I've been waiting too long for it. Too much time invested in waiting.
I'll get it no matter what.
Whatever goes up, better doggon well stay up...

I really cant form my opinion yet, because i havent got the game yet( not suggesting anything there)

Overall, I've been disappointed with Moo2 and I've really been wanting a space-based empire game. I like a lot of what I'm hearing, but a part of me keeps thinking that Gal Civ will have more of the features I'm looking for. Either way, I'm buying both games. I'm just looking for another game like Civ2 and now EU2 that I can keep going back to for years on end. So far, I've been having trouble.

the thread title is one of the dumbest questions i've heard in a while, I won't know if I'll like it until after I start playing the game.

I've played MoO and MoO2 and I have better memories of MoO since I played it in highschool at lunch break when I came home. It was a very addicting game, just like Civilization. I've waited years and by the time MoO 2 came along, I bought it, and having no powerful enough machine to play it, I read the manual over and over for a month, which added to the time of waiting for the release made me expectations for the game enlargen (i dunno if that word exists), anyways, by the time I played the game I was disapointed, and my brothers played it, and when the patch 1.3 came out, balancing out things, the game was allright, not great like the first one.
I fear that MoO3 will follow the same course, I have the 'puter for it, but will I have the enjoyment?
Only time will tell...![]()

yeah, it was a bad title. But most people who responded were capable of reading the first post and understanding the question.

The big problem for me is I don't want to buy the game if I won't like it (sounds sensible I think). But how to know?
I need previews. Dan's doesn't say anything about combat and thus is totally utterly and absolutely useless for me. The AAR's are fine but beta testers were selected from people who wanted the game, and they saw it become better and better as the builds came by. That means at first they may have been disappointed and then the game became better. But there may still be an annoying thing that they managed to forget (forgive?) because the game made lots of progress in other areas. So reading the beta testers comments is very informative, but not enough to provide a good clue to me.
AAR's aren't reviews. They don't tell you if you can trust the tactical AI: you have to dig the info from embellished (and often good and interesting) prose.
So, there is no way now to know if I would like the game. Argh!
I expect a few reviews here will help me make an opinion. Then I can decide whether I would like the game or not and buy it or not.

Well if the dang thing would get leaked already, we could play it and find out while we're waiting for IG to release it. Stupid honorable reviewers *grumble grumble*The big problem for me is I don't want to buy the game if I won't like it (sounds sensible I think). But how to know?

Not having good previews right now will not effect your decision on whether to purchase. At worst it will delay it.
