seriously though, what do you think? i'm a bit, um, taken aback by the, uh, total profusion of information. I think the first turn took me an hour or two.
UGO.com got its review copy of Master of Orion III (including yours truly), so I imagine all the other pubs got theirs, too.
Keep your eyes out for reviews (including my review as well.)

That's interesting, considering that's almost exactly what PennyArcade said about the game itself. I'm not too worried about that aspect - I don't mind a strategy game that I can't just jump right into, and there are a lot of settings to adjust early on. So long as every turn doesn't take an hour, I'll be happy.
What are your thoughts re: the opening movie and graphics? How do the menuing systems look when animated?
Oh yeah, to either of you - please, if at all possible, a small movie of virtually anything in the game would be a godsend. Especially loved would be a movie of space combat.
Thanks!
there is already a movie with space combat out there! don't have a link right off hand though. sorry. i'm sure Apolyton has it somewhere close at hand.
Intro movie: very cool. first look at harvesters. watched it several times before i even played. I showed it to each family member just so i could have an excuse to watch it again!
UI - pretty slick in movement. The fonts blow though, sorry.
there's so much to learn. forget about your virgin MP game. not gunna happen. trust me. everything penny arcade said is true. you will be playing for days or weeks before you even understand what you are doing. so many buttons... and that's after they downsized it!
I've only played a few hours though, so i can't say too much about big space battles or anything grand. i'm not even sure how to land ground troops or attack planets yet. i feel so helpless.

Well, leiavoia, if there is a film of it, it's hiding awfully well. None of the major or minor Moo sites I've looked at have had anything like it - and these are sites that have Emrich talking about his design docs.
I'm thinking it might've been something that you press types get that us lowly folks don't.Anyhoo, if you'd like to show it off, please do so. I know it's something a lot of people at IG and here have been asking for.
ETA: it's amazing the information that you can find by looking at a person's profile. Heh. Can't wait to see what orionsector has to say about it.![]()
Turn 1 took less time for me, much less, but, then again, I was already somewhat familiar with the game from the Strategy Guide, which took pains to explain how to spend your first few turns.
I'm not going to discuss the game til my review is finished, though.![]()

I guess I'll have to start my own site so I can get my copy of MOO3.![]()

Any of you boys with the review mind telling me if it came in mass produced box or on secret unmarked discs?
Thanx
I have a feeling it'll be out this time next week. Just a feeling.

So are you guys held down by any NDA's as such or are you free to release details about everything? also the people at IG didnt happen to slip you a release date did they?

Not in this case. There was an implicit NDA for Civ III. For MOO3, there is none - but then again, they released the STRATEGY GUIDE 3 months ago, so obviously, they're not hiding anything.

There is a big (in size) movie of space battle, i think it was in GS or something. You could try to use metacrawler.com to find it. That's what i had done.
For the reviewers: When you guys plan to release your reviews? Im new here, so what's your website's URLS?
Alexnm, are you also from Brazil?

Is there more to the Penny Arcade reference than the two liner on its front page?
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

we'll probably be putting up a 3-way review about the same time as UGO's, mid/late next week.
i did not get the strat guide and i would pay good money for a paper manual at this point ("Help me! Please!").
Rumor has it that all of the the review copies were burned copies with some copy protection problem. however, since mine got lost in the mail, i got some of the first *stamped* gold masters :-)))
i am not under an NDA, but you won't be getting harvester bits out of me. they are pretty creepy though. i mean genuinely CREEPY. and not what i thought they were. well, kinda, but not, you know...
also, the manual is on .pdf on the second disk. but no ALT+TAB makes that not so usable.

ahem, yeah... right.
One friend of mine who loves Civ sat down at the game for the first time two days ago and said holy F***in s***!!! Then he started laughing and said, so this is the 'simple' version?!?'
We both laughed for a while about that.
hope you guys enjoy it, glad you liked the intro and the harvesters![]()

That's it, the dog and the cat are outta here. We must protect the manual at all cost, even plunking down more money to get each page laminated.Originally posted by dulahan

Actually, Chantz et al have said repeatedly that alt-tab is disabled for the game. That was an unfortunate but predictable thing to occur.

Cool. It will be nice to see a review from someone who's taste in games is well documented. I may not always agree with Jonah, but at least I know where our likes and dislikes coincide.

Actually, he said in one of the Chats very recently that Alt+tab works. So did the BTs. Read up on them.

Though I've also heard XP could care less if it is disabled and even if it is by the program. I can only hope this remains true.
-The fact it is signifcantly cuts down on my MOO3 time. I almost always am doing other things when playing Strategy games that require me to get out of the game I'm playing. And no its not Cheating. Generally work or Mu*ing.
