Can I download Civ1 for free anywhere on the net?
I have only managed to find a version in French at The Keep. Does anyone know where I can get an English version?

I am not sure what you are trying to do but I am pretty sure as you've been around here for some time now that such questions/remarks are not tolerated!

It's not shareware, and it's still copyrighted.

probably because of the huge global salesIt's not shareware, and it's still copyrighted.
Damnit Caligastia, you're violating the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

The common belief that if a game is no more sold or supported then its private commerce/exchange cannot harm the rights owner, alas, is not accepted by companies, and the copyright gives them a legal leverage to enforce their view.
I don't know, I'm not a lawyer, maybe it has to do with "intellectual property" rights...
or maybe the fact that someone is getting, using and enjoying their old product albeit they wouldn't be there to sell it anyway, makes them fear it wold spoil a market niche they're intentionally keeping empty... like they plan to commmercialise a new similar game which is just an eye-candy/rehash plug and they don't want to find out that it doesn't sell because also *new* customers prefer to play their old discontinued game, for free...
Most abandonware sites "claims" are indeed not sustained by law, they're indeed violating copyrights.
They dare, until a company files them a (law-backed-up) removal request...
I don't exactly know what I mean by that, but I mean it (Holden Caulfield)

I have to say tho, that:
- I understand the legal grounds of company's claim
- I can't thus blame the site for enforcing a policy banning any possible cause of harm for the site itself, e.g. references to "software piracy".
- although I'm not friendly with all "the management" here, I can't avoid praising the product and service they provide with he site, of which I'm an avid user (strictly ON-TOPIC forums...), and I wouldn't be happy should the site suffer because of some legal infringement
...that said....
I trust the MODERATORS can do their work about the issue.
All this frowning on Caligastia, and delusion because the mods aren't more active in going at him (her?), really looks like sycophancy to me
imho. Frankly.

Calli, why'd you decide to tempt fate by restarting this thread after Dan closed the other one? I'd be careful if I were you
