What a playoff day! Makes up for yesterday for sure .

The San Fran game was an instant classic. WOW!

Don't give the win to the Raiders just yet. But if they beat the Jets, then I'll be rooting for them as they are one of my 2 other favorite teams. Just not when they play the Jets.

    The Giants? Or the Browns?

I don't recall anyone picking a pass over a FG?

    ---

Oh, btw, reports out of Green Bay say they are wondering about Farve and have ALL BUT DECIDED to draft a QB with their first round pick, and they are looking at Rex Grossman.

The Giants. It was 3rd down; they could have spiked the ball and tried another field goal instead of throwing it to a lineman.

Do you think a punter (who was the holder) would think about spiking a ball? When you have a botched FG, how many people do you think would have immediately spiked it, instead of going for the pass?

He didn't know how much time was left... he's a punter for God's sake!

I'd like to see you try it.

When you practice FGs, you have a 'bust play'. Everyone runs out. Think about it... did anyone stop and think he would have spiked it? No, they ran out trying to make something out of it.

Furthermore, he's a punter... he did everything he could... and it isn't his fault there was an ineligable reciever downfield.

Giants shoulda lost anyway. They got lucky the ref's missed an unintentional facemasking in their final drive.

The holder and kicker were on the side lines... if A coach didn't remind them it was only third down before they ran on to the field and that he could spike the ball on a bad snap, then they are ALL idiots and deserved what happened.

In the wacky world of steroid laced jockbots it would be extremely unlikely that a player would be prepared.

I remember the Big Red Machine: Bench, Morgan, Concepcion and Geronimo, the guys up the middle that were almost flawless defensively. Those guys were prepared (Rose too!) mentally. They operated on the principal that you had to know what to do in all situations before the ball was thrown and they were so sweet. Morgan was the best mental player I ever saw.

Football players are seldom so well coached. Ole Sparky did his job by golly.

Now these football players, gar. As Ming said, they blew it. Where are the guys like Fran Tarkenton and Joe Theisman?

    Jesus...

First a stupid a$$ed Big Ten team has to win the National Title, and then the FARGING Niners win...

What a lousy sports year I've had.

P.S. Not very often do I hope for people to get hurt (At least a career ending type of hurt)....

But Terrell Owens is a useless peice of human fecal matter.

yes but he is a bad ass reciever. He has the talent. And I think his attitude is 1 million times better than Randy Moss. And he is 1 million times as talented as Randy Moss as well.

He is talented. And he has a better attitude then Randy Moss. He even works hard and blocks very well for a wide reciever.

That doesn't change the fact that he is akin to a piece of fecal matter.

This whole "Thug/LookAtME" schtick is getting old.

And the colts quit on Dungy. WTF!. Maybe Dungy isn't that great a coach after all. They didn't even try. That was pathetic.

And I was sorely rooting for the Browns. But you have to have a good running game to make it in the playoffs. They would have won the game easily if they could have run the ball.

The Jets are going to beat the Raiders! You heard it here first.

other predictions. Tennessee over Steelers. All you have to do is pass the ball decently and you can beat them (although Cleveland found out it helps to have a running game in the Fourth quarter as well). NE and Oakland torched the Steelers this season through the air. And same with Cleveland today. The Steelers have no chance to go far in the playoffs.

I take Tampa Bay over SF if Brad Johnson starts. If not, then San Fransisco will win.

And I take Atlanta over Philadelphia!!!!! You heard it here first!!!!!

I think the postgame show said it all. Jimmy Johnson was apopletic on the holder's not spiking the ball on third down when there is a muffed hike. He said that this is something special teams are supposed to practice every week.

    Howie Long agreed.

Fassel and his coaching staff will have hell to pay tomorrow in New York. They have no excuses for what happened.

    Fassel won't get fired.

P.S What the heck is wrong with you New Yawkers anyway? Fassel has done quite a bit for your team, ressurects it yearly in order to get it into the playoffs, and all you guys wanna do is get the guy fired.

the head coach took too much blame. How about the defensive coordinator? They should fire him and pick up some decent coverage guys in the off season from the free agency or draft.

Jimmy almost did blow a gasket...

I can't believe that they lost control like they did out there. They could have been kicking a 25 yard field goal if that safety of theirs didn't have a brain fart at the end there...

Good point FF. He cost them 2 potential 15-yarders when field postition was at a premium.

In both games Sunday, there came a point where I said, "This game is over -- only the Bears could blow this kind of lead."

    Wrong two times!

Guess the collar gets a little tighter in the playoffs.

Example:. The Browns could have taken at least 4 or 5 more minutes off the clock if their stupid backs and receivers would have just laid down in bounds. This happened repeatedly from the middle of the 3rd quarter on.. Butch Davis had a great game plan (and Holcomb had a great game!) but they really gave this one away. They were not prepared to win, couldn't close the deal.

SPECIAL NOTE TO CHRIS 62 --

DON'T DO IT!! Even if you succeed in wringing Fassel's fool neck, there's no guarantee they won't bring in someone worse to replace him.

Giants, 49ers... whatever, with Brad Johnson back, we'll take on all comers. BRING ON THE BAY AREA BOYS! And Imran... I pull for Atlanta to pull another upset, amazingly, though with the Green Bay loss the whole "cold weather" mystique is gone...

I'm torn and excited at the same time. Falcons/Eagles. Will McNabb be a shadow of his former self or will he rise to the occasion as he normally does?

Lots of speculation that McNabb will be hobbled, yet even so he had an incredible game playing on a broken ankle. This game is so dependent on the unknown health of a superstar I find it hard to imagine how the linesmakers can establish a line.

In any event I find it a shame my two fav teams are matched against each other. That being said I have to pull for the Eagles b/c they will undoubtedly be in a better position to snuff the stinkin Succanears then the Falcons. Buc unfortunately own Atlanta.

I would love to see Tampa come up to Philly again for their annual butt kickin.

Interesting quote by Peter King today in his column on CNNSI.com:

I hear team medics have told Rams higher-ups that Marc Bulger will be hard-pressed to ever make it through a 16-game season healthy. The Rams have to be apoplectic over what once seemed like a terrific quarterback situation but now is filled with question marks.

    Buyers beware .

And Reismark, you are so silly! You think one game breaks a trend . The Bucs still can't win in cold weather and the Packers are almost invincible at home when it is below 35 degrees. One game does not break a rule. When Tampa starts winning cold games with regularity and Green Bay starts losing them with regularity THEN tell me that the mystique is gone. Other wise, I don't want to hear it .

I would love to see Tampa come up to Philly again for their annual butt kickin.

Woot! Though I think Jeff Garcia will have a little suprise for the Bucs on his own... he may even knock them off by himself, like he did with the Giants.

Oh, guys... btw... the punter was right after all:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Giants holder Matt Allen could not have spiked the botched snap on the final play of New York's loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

    It's against the rules.

Mike Pereira, the NFL supervisor of officials, confirmed Monday that Allen would not have been allowed to immediately spike the ball because it was a long snap. The only time a player can spike the ball is when he takes the snap from under the center.

With six seconds left Sunday and the Giants trailing 39-38, Matt Bryant lined up to try a potential game-winning 41-yard field goal. The snap from newly signed Trey Junkin was in the dirt. Allen fumbled the ball, then made a desperation pass downfield to what turned out to be an ineligible receiver, guard Rich Seubert.

FOX commentator Cris Collinsworth said at the time that since it was third down, Allen could have spiked the ball, giving the Giants another chance at a kick. Afterward, on the FOX postgame show, other commentators agreed.

Pereira said the only other option would have been to throw to an eligible receiver.

I was kinda wondering if he spiked it after the long snap why it wouldn't be intentional grounding... I guess it would . The exception only applies to snaps from under center.
