  • the United States of Europe

Some results of the European convention in Brussels :

A group of politicians, led by Giscard d'Estaing, is working on a proposal for a European constitution.
When this constitution is accepted, they also propose to rename the EU to USE (United States of Europe).

Now who will be THE united states then.

We're the first, so it will always be us. Mexico is the United States of Mexico. Everyone calls it Mexico. You'll always be Europe.

And it's easier to call you America. Problem solved

Now this stuff sounds quite interesting Maestro...I am quite interested to see what they come up with...

A European constitution would actually be nice.
Make it a real union, not just some economical pact.

I think that they are being premature in the extreme.

Perhaps they should change the name to Disunited States of Europe?

                Problem solved.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

At this point in time, with all the many divisions inside the EU, least of all being Britain's obstinancy with the euro, it seems like a rather Quixotic maneuver…

Exactly, Denmark and Sweden are being far more obstinate over the €.

we have a Europe of two speeds, that's for sure.

But this is a good year for Europe. Finalization of entry talks for a number of nations. Reform of the financial system in the EU. And the constitution.

All I can say is that the countries of Europe should read about the way American southern states were eventually enslaved by nefarious Federalist criminals.
