  • How many planets would we need if everyone on Earth lived like you?

For me it turns out that if all six billion of us lived like me, we'd need 4.9 Earths to feed, cloth, house, and transport all of us. Personally, I take up about 8.9 hectares (US average is 9.7, so I'm a little better than most of my countrymen--but not as good as I thought). "Worldwide, there exist 1.8 biologically productive global hectares per person."

    What about you?

2.6 hectares, requiring 1.4 planets. I got major reduction in points due to my transportation situation and living in NYC.

      1.7 planets, and 3 hectors.

Edited to add that the average in Canada is 8.8 hectors.

I take up 4.8 ha (the average ecological footprint for China is 1.5 ha). If everyone lived like me we'd need 2.7 planets.

This test is bull****. I pretended to be a person from Malaysia who was vegan and lived an ABSOLUTELY GREEN life and it said we would need 1 planet!
I'm an environmentalist but even I have to say that this test is skewed.

You expect to be able to live in the void of space because you live green?

The test is full of it.... 6 hectares and 3.3 planets. I do use more resources than my average countrymen, who use 4.7 each.

The test is skewed. No way I use less resources than Chegitz.

I did a re-calculation and my number over 7.6 ha. The problem is flying time. A trip from HK to Canada, and then back, can take more than 30 hours. If I flew more than 100 hours, the footprint jumps to more than 15 ha.

I guess he was assuming that, since they gave you portions of planets beyond 1, they'd subdivide the first as well. But good point...

Hmm, I filled in the thing twice with exactly the same answers, one for sweden and one ofr Los Angleles... Turned out that my footprint more than doubled just for moving... And my lifestyl is pretty much unchanged....

If I lived the way I polled, and EVERYONE did, then I'm sure we could support another few billion. Heck maybe more than that.
