Cool... you use Sn00py's graphic, right? But it isn't included with the zip. So, how does it look with the original grapics?

the only graphic of snoopies that is in that is in that image is the raised land, so it should look the same except for at the shoreline, and then I'm not sure how it looks with the original graphics. I imagine it can't be that different though.

Isn't that blue water as well?, but you are right. Th doesn't affect the look of the flod plains. Just as long as nobody thinks it changes the other things as well.

i think he is referring to the random lake that doesn't merge very well (look at the shoreline in the bottom right of the screen capture). I just modified it, and will update the zip file. I'll have to wait until I get home though to update the screenshot.

I live right near some flood plains, I can take pictures if you want. At no point, however, does it ever look like a desert. I don't understand the logic that firaxis used there. Also there is no deserts nearby. The floodplains is more like an area of land between a river and the normal dry terrain. This is in my local area and it may be an exception I don't know. But I can tell you it is very furtile and it is flooded even after a simply rainfall.

I think you're pictures are pretty good, although the water looks a little too deep. I guess because it is so blue. But keep up the good work.

Thanks for the compliment . I made the water fairly blue so that it would stick out. The Flood Plain grphic straddles the gridline, and therefore has to be visble enought for 2 squares, not just one. The original premise was to make the flood plains more obvious, so fi figured, the higher the contrast, the higher the visibility. However, if you would like one that is lighter blue, I can probably arrange it.

As far as why they are on the desert, I think firaxis' idea was to make deserts somewhat useful, since there were many civs (notably egypt) that flourished in otherwise dry and sandy areas. I don't think they took into account the vast majority of flood plains (i.e., the Mississippi, Red, Missouri, Ohio, Rhine, Yellow, etc) when they designed them. The reason I think this is because the only place you can place a flood plain graphic is on a desert (and flood plains in deserts look like the Nile). I don't think it was so much a realism thing as it was a game balancing thing.

I too live near a flood plain (albeit a small one). For realism, I should have made the image look like a flooded golf course

    Exclamation flood plains

No offense at your attempt but I have never seen a flood plain with palm trees? A flood plain that I know of are all over where I live in the desert. You will not see trees or hardly any growth of that kind.
Looks cool as hell though even if it isn't really like the ones I have seen in the desert and in the north east.

    Desert Dog,

You may be right about the flood plains by you, I don't question that. Although the ones by me are lush all of the time, with trees and all sorts of greenery. There are actually farms on some of them. The whole area floods quite frequently though, even the farms. The houses are all built on stilts, for obvious reasons.

Despite all of that, I am actually glad you mentioned the desert ones by you, because I had no idea when firaxis came up with those graphics. So I guess the desert ones must appear more frequently, either that or they had too many green terrain tiles already.

yeah, palm trees wouldn't survive in many flood plains. The main reason they are there is it makes the FP much more visible (that and I just got back home from Florida when I made them, and I missed them ). Like I said, I based it off the Nile, which I believe does have some palm trees. The nile may be the exception, but it also the most well known of the desert floodplains.

Personally I never had any problems with the distinguishing flood plains in the game. Just look for the river! The idea was to similate the Nile and other such rivers, so what I'd rather see is a darker soil at/around the river.

However, I do like your graphics, though I think they would be far better as an oasis graphic. That is a resource that would be nice to have back.

Yeah, I don't think the original was bad, but there was a request made to make one more visible (in the creation forum).

You can use this as an oasis tile. In the map editor, place a single tile of river. (the game has no requirement that a river meet the sea). It will look like an oasis, and give you benefits of a flood plain.

Yeah, thats what I meant, I don't think oases tend to have enough water to irigate lands around and beyond it. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Yeah, I hadn't thought about the irrigation aspect. It was just a workaround though. You could probably cut out one of the squares and add it to the resource pcx file, and then use the editor to add it to the game. I think I will try that when I get back into town after Easter Weekend.

I live in desert obvious not much growth here anyways. The main thing out here is that when it rains it floods with devastating fury some times. The run off for example in one area will go from nothing to 4-6' of water.
There is some growth at the edges but no palm trees. In florida where I lived in Oldsmar the flood plain areas had growth but not palm trees. Seems like an Oasis type terrain for sure rather then flood plain. Flood plains in most areas are very rich in nutrients. I guess we both agree on this subject.

When I attempt to use this mod and some others all I get is an attachment file and not a zip file. How does one utilize these files?

Your graphic looks cool, but IMHO the water of the flood plain is too much darker compared to the river one

    Anyway.... I really like it
    Keep it up
