is rome air ticket 20 euros and new york 250?

what are we going to see in new york? we'll be happy if someone doesn't shoot us

shouldn't the value of a place be clearly reflected on the price?

it should be new york 2 euros and rome 1000

and a "well connected world" with no distances is carp
    (or rather crap)

Well, you see, airplanes consume fuel, and the amount of fuel consumed increases with distance. There is a contrivance called a "map," which may have been invented by a Greek person, which will show relative distances. As you are in Greece, Rome is only a (relatively) short distance away, while a New York flight involves crossing an ocean. This entails not only using more fuel, but more pay for pilots and flight attendants, and greater wear on the aircraft. Also you will be leaving the EU, which may involve greater fees somehow. Finally, everything which in any way involves New York City will automatically become overpriced. Just mentioning it in this thread has increased Aeson's bandwidth costs, and so you may expect him to close it shortly.

Rome probably subsidises the flights to boost tourism. New Yorkers hate everyone and so tax people who try and show up.
