Someone on FB claimed that somebody found a "koffing" at the Holocaust Museum. A quick Google reveals that this is a Pokemon known for producing poison gas. Somebody did not think this through at all well . . .

I read something about a restaurant in Arlington I think? dropping lures as often as possible to bring in business and apparently it works really well. No question how this game is monetizable: foot traffic is worth $$$

Yeah, I read an article someone shared from some business site claiming that a lot of small businesses are doing that, and that it effectively costs a little over a dollar an hour. But there's bound to be a hard ceiling; if businesses are discovering this after, what, a week and change, we will soon reach the point where enough of them are doing it that it becomes more of a disadvantage for the ones that aren't. If five competing businesses in the same neighborhood are all dropping lures nonstop, there's no competitive advantage, since there are only so many Pokespazzes to suck in. In that scenario, they're effectively paying a small tax to Nintendo to avoid losing market share.

Getting people to hunt imaginary fantasy creatures near your business seems as likely to bump traffic one door down as well. That is, it may certainly increase your sales, but maybe only by increasing sales in the area generally. In which case not every business is compelled to do it.

I'm way too old to have any interest whatsoever in Poke'mon stuff, but the interfacing game with the world to simulate the cartoon and the future is now aspects assuredly fascinate...

OTOH, how hard can it be? Also, any business that rejects an easy, legit opportunity to bump up revenues even a fraction of a percent has no business being in business.

This whole thing is a terrible idea. What if the pokemons are striking back, and start to hunt us???
