  • Police beat, taze and put a bag on a black girls head.

This is ****ing sickening, the idea that this is acceptable in any civilized society is just totally ****ed.

In the video, originally posted by Facebook user RichBoy Robinson, the girl, who local media identified as 18-year-old Genele H. Laird, is seen standing in front of the East Towne Mall on East Washington in Madison, Wisconsin, being manhandled by a police officer. The officer, who is struggling with the girl to force her to the ground, soon gets help from a backup officer, who proceeds to repeatedly drive his knee into Laird’s ribs. The officer also punches Laird several times.

After Laird is beaten into submission, the two officers hold her on the ground, while one repeatedly uses his taser on Laird’s torso and leg. During the beating, Laird is heard screaming and pleading with the police to get off of her, saying “I can’t breathe.” Near the end of the video, a bag is put over Laird’s head while she lies facedown on the concrete.

In a press release, the Madison Police Department alleged that before the girl was taken outside the mall, she had threatened an employee at a Taco Bell restaurant in the mall’s food court, accused a worker of stealing her phone, and allegedly brandished a knife. However, Laird appears unarmed in the video circulating on social media.

According to Channel 3000 in Madison, Laird was arrested on tentative charges of disorderly conduct while armed with a knife, resisting police causing injury, battery to a police officer, and discharge of bodily fluid.

A shorter video showing the beating and tasing was posted by RichBoy Robinson at 7:20 p.m. local time, and has already been viewed over 300,000 times as of this writing. Watch it below:

Neither Robinson nor the Madison Police Department immediately responded to interview requests.

She probably wet herself when she was tazed repeatedly down the stomach and leg. Obviously she needs to be charged for such terrible public indecency.

Discharge of bodily fluids is usually the charge when you spit on a police officer. It's been known to elicit this type of retaliation.
This type of thing must be stopped. Body camera's and independent review boards may help.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I watched the video and didn't see any "beating". A cop kneed her a couple times. They did taze her which seemed unnecessary. They were trying to handcuff her and she was resisting. She also threatened to bite them and punch them... what a moron.

Did you watch a completely different video to the one actually posted above, because he quite clearly knees her repeatedly in the stomach and punches her a number of times, before tazing her repeatedly across the stomach and down one leg (for no apparent reason at all, as she's on the ground being held by two large men).

What kind of ****ed up policing are you used to, where tazers are a punishment for someone not immediately putting their arms where they're told (while being thrown on the floor and knelt on)?

Thread title is a lie. At no point do they beat or taze a black girl's head.

She was repeatedly told to put her arms behind her back well before they used force. Two men shouldn't need to use a taser to put a girl in handcuffs, but that doesn't change the fact that the way she interacted with the police was idiotic. If you resist arrest, the cops will use force to put you in handcuffs. If you spit at them and threaten to punch and bite them, you might make them angry. Duh.

If the police in the US are as savage as you claim, that just makes her even more of an idiot.

I guess the police in France will surrender if you refuse to let them arrest you?

Well, in a democracy as I understand it, justice and police are separated powers. Justice tells when and how the law should be applied, police enforce the law as told/decided by justice.
The police therefore has no right at all to decide neither if, nor how a citizen should be "punished" for misconduct. That is a justice matter.
The only thing police is entitled to is to use reasonable force to enforce the law (and protection of citizens).

The taser is a weird tool in the police arsenal. I know that some European countries did not allow the taser for their police, because while the original goal of the taser was to immobilize, it had this sad drawback of inflicting pain.
The fear of governments was that police officers end up using tasers not as an immobilizing tool, but as a tool to inflict pain, as a punishment tool.
And it seems their fear was justified as we get more and more videos from the US that show officers using their tasers more as a punishment device than immobilizing one.
Now we may argue about inflicting pain in order to get obedience is a way of "immobilizing people". But that would be a kind of twisted argument. Equip police with whips then and you'll get the same effect.

So, for me, tasers used on someone already on the ground is misusing the tool and police overstepping their power.
Police has zero right to "punish" people, only justice has.
When the police also has the right to judge and inflict pain to citizens for perceived misconduct, we are flirting with a police state indeed.

Teach your police that the pain inflicted by the taser is a sad side effect and is of undemocratic nature. Police has no democratic right to inflict pain purposely. Therefore tasers should be last non lethal resort.
