the other half of the parents is married to her job as a military leader ...
and little Ben is alone all of the time, only getting babysat by a hysterical droid ...
until he is, too early, given away to his uncle (who is a distant and revered person who also lives for his job) in order to learn a trade.

How did Rey use the force without waving her hand (e.g., when she got James Bond to release her shackles and drop his gun?). Or is it just the story telling us that she needs Luke to teach her showmanship? One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

Saw it today. I liked the movie, not great but well worth the ticket.
I figure once you decide to go watch about how midichlorians allow people in a distant galaxy a long time ago, who almost all happen to be anatomically humans and/or resemble anatomical humans with skin diseases, to manipulate the force that runs through all of everything in their quest to blow up planets and/or blow up planet destroying weapons ... you should probably just turn off the logic functions and enjoy. So I don't worry about that aspect of the movie.
The pacing of the movie was off though, everything felt rushed starting with the very first scene, starting us off right at the critical moment for Fin. It would have been nice if they had slowed things down and developed the characters/relationships better, and not just skipped right into showing all the old characters as well. I could have seen that story arc being 2 or (preferably) 3 movies. Rey, Fin, and Solo all have great potential as characters but it was mostly on fast forward. They deserved more time to connect with the audience. I don't like Ben. Should have kept the mask on, the force truth-telling scenes dragged and were repetitive, and the meeting with Solo was too soon and felt kinda bland for being rushed into.
Snokes is a dumb name ... reminded me of "Snape". That he looks like Voldemort didn't help either. I honestly had a moment where I was wondering if Harry Potter was going to show up.
But it was still fun to watch. Just left me wishing it was longer, which isn't a terrible thing.
Net and her sisters really got a kick out of the boob bot. They giggled or laughed every time it was on screen, I chuckled a few times. A Star Wars branded WALL-E ripoff should be in the works ...

How did she instantly become good enough to beat a budding sith lord trained by his uncle Luke? Why does Princess Leia ignore her old friend Chewbacca to go hug Rey at the end despite never having met her before?Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
