  • Coup d'etat in Yemen

The Gulf Cooperation Council on Wednesday slammed the acts of Houthi rebels in Yemen as “terrorist” and called on the Shiite group to vacate the presidential palace and release a presidential aide, according to Al Arabiya News Channel.

Yemen's minority Shiite Houthi fighters have taken up guard at President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi’s home but stress that they have not toppled him after two days of fighting.

In a statement, the Gulf Arab foreign ministers meeting in Saudi Arabia considered the violence in Sanaa on Jan. 20 a “coup d'etat,” according to Reuters news agency.

The GCC also urged the Houthi rebels to surrender control of state institutions.
The Saudi king dies and a coup finally takes place in Yemen... who would have expected instability in the middle east? Will Israel end up the West's only ally?
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

Yeah, it's been in the news for the last couple of days (kind of overshadowed by a murdered prosecutor who had made accusations against th president though). Apparently the yemeni president quit earlier today.

      Quit? More like ran away.

his country is falling apart and he had been under siege in the presidential palace for a while. there wasn't really a lot he could have done.

He could have gone down like Al Pacino in Scarface.

              Civil war?

It’s all about the Saudis. No matter how complex the new Yemeni civil war may appear – nor how powerful the Houthi rebels have become in the capital of Sanaa – it’s the Zaidi sect of Shiism which the Houthis represent that frightens the Sunni Wahabi monarchy of Saudi Arabia, and not without reason.

                Brave Brave sir Robin,
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.......
