I was intrigued until the late tease about BE. That sucked all the fun out of it.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Starships was developed by Meier and a small team at Firaxis

Will it have relativistic effects? I so want a game like this to feature time dilation and such.

weird, and some kind of BE tie-in?

Going to put this in my "wait and see" pile.

It seems ( the User Stats from Steam back this) that Firaxis lost a lot of Goodwill with Beyond Earth. The Concept exploring Fleet sound quite familiar. I think several games scheduled in the near Future have the same basic concept.

Sid Meier's Star Trek (without the familiar characters/worlds/alien sex) (possibly wrong about the alien sex)

I have a hard time picturing how you'd meaningfully integrate that into a game and still have it be fun. It'd be like if Civ were like ancient warfare for real (i.e., you order an army into the field, with a general you more or less trust, and find out in two months if he won, lost, got ambushed and destroyed en route by some obscure Turkic clan, or decided to betray you somehow).

heh, I remember a Civ 3 MP game in MZO where the players all sent a 'game master' their orders for everything outside the capital and he acted as general/governor for those units/cities.

The difference is that it's you who are traveling with your fleet, not sending out fleets.
