Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become rated? Simply post, to this thread, the highest level of victory that you ever attained, (Chieftain, Warlord, Prince, King, Emperor, or Deity), in a "single player" game of Call to Power, along with the Nation and Territory that you presently reside. That's it! You'll see your name appear on the above list within a week.
How do the ratings change? See the below CTP Ratings Links section for an in depth discussion.
On whose turn should the Power Graph be reported? It doesn't matter because the Power Graph remains the same during the cycle of the turn. However, we recommend that the 1st player (blue) always report the Power Graph results.

TENPL639_AM Report Legend:

NAT.TR - Nation and Territory of Primary Residence.

PBEM RATING - Starts with an initial value depending upon the highest CtP AI level ever honestly defeated: Chieftain=14; Warlord=16; Prince=17; King=18; Emperor=19; Deity=21. This rating changes by winning or losing to other rated players, (at the *9 turn mark every ten turns), while playing "rated" PBEM games. See the CtP Multiplayer topic "PBEM Ladders" for details on how this rating change is calculated.

TEN619_AM Report Concepts:

Win/Loss - A Win counts by having a "higher" Power Graph rating at the ten turn mark during a "rated" game. For example, in a five player game, at the ten turn mark, each player will receive four results - 4 wins and 0 losses, or 3 wins and 1 loss, etc.

Delinquency - 24 or more hours late counts as a delinquency. Each delinquency deducts -0.1 ratings points from player's rating.

Inactivity Adjustment - Players will lose 5/100ths of a ratings point (-0.05) for each month they go without a ratings adjustment, (i.e. remain inactive in the ratings for an entire month).

Elimination Rule

If, in a rated game, a player:
a) resigns;
b) changes status from "rated" to "unrated";
c) gets annihilated; or
d) gets "next turned" for three turns in a row
e) has been found to be using bug utilization tricks,

then every remaining player in that game "DEFEATS" THAT PLAYER THREE TIMES (as measured by the normal ten turn phase defeat).

For example, in a 5 player game, the first person who gets "eliminated from the ratings in that game" would be "defeated" 12 times (as measured by the normal power graph 10 turn defeat), (3 multiplied by 4 remaining players.) This equates to an average decrease in ratings of about 2 to 3 points for the eliminated player. The second player eliminated would be defeated 9 times (3 multiplied by 3 remaining players), ... etc.

In the case of resignation or three consecutive "next turns", then that resigned player's civilization will be "next turned" until a replacement player, (either rated or unrated), takes over that civilization's control.

3. All desired rated players must have a current rating -- (please state their initial rating if they do not have a current rating).

Yeti & Napoleon Bonaparte II do not participate in any PBEM game anymore so you could get them off the ratings completely.


Replace Yeti with Dugrik in the Youngbloods Gathering. Dugrik is rated in this game.


Replace Napoleon Bonaparte II with Syoris in the Another World. Syoris is rated in this game.


AeroPrinz is not rated in Face of Earth so you may erase the question mark and the comment .


Aint No Fun isn't in the list of the current rated games in progress. Please put it in. In order not to search in the previous posts I present you with the players, their status and their play order:

**CTP Rated Game Limit Notice ** Due to the limitations of this rating system, (and my shrinking spare time), I am going to have to impose a cap of 30 "in progress" rated games. We are near the limit now with 28. There are some games that are relatively stagnant. I would suggest disbanding those rated games to make room for new rated games to start up. Mutually agreed "disbandment" of rated games causes no rating changes, up or down, for any players involved in those games.

What are you using for calculations? The same JavaScript pages you submitted me somewhen? Perhaps you need a program that would automatically calculate ratings from one game, given standings and current ratings?
Another rule: The CtP PBEM Ladder Administrator may disband any rated game, which will cause no ratings penalties or endorsements. This is to improve the limit rule, and in case someone disagrees to mutually disband a game, I'll do it.

Yes Solver. The formulas I gave you are the same ones that I use. But there are three reports that need updating. Ratings, History, and Monthly Progress. A program would be nice, but someone still has to do the data entry on a consistant basis, and generate and audit the reports for accuracy. As long as the volume stays about the same, I don't mind doing it once every few weeks. An automatic program would be a lot of work (IMO) but may be the way to go if the popularity of this increases any further. Any volunteers?

Keygen, sorry about not being able to change your LC mistaken post result. All calculations are affected by the previous PG posts. One rating change depends upon the previous which depends upon the previous etc. To change someone's result would force a reversal and recalculation of practically all of the ratings from 28-MAY forward.

You have got the point here. An automatic program would make it possible for you to count the ratings in much shorter time - and easily handle up to 50 games. Also, it would make it possible for everyone to count raiting in your absence, not only the people who understand the formulas. Could you please resend that java application to me, I've probably lost it?

Thanks for the offer to check the power graph posts for validity, Keygen, but I think we should just let the players police themselves, (until the automatic update program is written). Usually that works. Paul, TheBirdMan, Keygen, and others, have reported problems in the past, and they have been corrected. I think it works okay as it is. Keygen's mistake by St Jon just slipped through the cracks, even though the post had been sitting in the CTP PBEM Ratings thread for 2 weeks before I processed it. (I noticed Jon put "NR" next to Keygen's name this time, for Not Rated. Jon, please place unrated players in parentheses, to be consistent with all of the other posts, so I don't foul it up again. Thanks.)

Solver, I sent you the JavaScript yesterday. I will wait to see if you do anything with it before I give a copy to Slamp.

Paul, how did Monkey 2 go to just having 2 players rated? Did someone switch from rated to unrated? Rated games need a minimum of three rated players participating, unless the others have been eliminated or switched from rated to unrated status.

Monkey 2 went to two rated players when Yeti disappeared. Saddam then played the French for a few turns, but he has asked for the French to be put to AI for the last few turns of this game.

Welcome! Now you're a rated player here. People keep creating games all the time, you'll soon get into it. In the meantime, I'd suggest going to Youngblood Recruitment Center, ran by Keygen.
