  • ICS, a love story

I want to believe that this strategy can work. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do it. So, I am turning to this community. Hopefully, someone, or several someones, can explain how this strategy is supposed to work. I can easily get a number of bases up, but then I either run into a drone wall, or I lose out on many of the earlier SP's, not to mention the lack of territory. I assume this problem does not have a simple one step answer, but a complicated, many-layered issue.

Facilities: Recreation Commons, Hologram Theatre (or Network Node if you have the Virtual World SP), Nanohospital, Paradise Garden, Research Hospital.
Secret projects: Human Genome Project, Ascetic Virtues, Clinical Immortality, Longevity Vaccine, Self-Aware Colony, Virtual World.
Or you can build in a problem base the Punishment Sphere.

Increase police rating and use units with the Non-Lethal Methods ability.
Increase PSYCH to appeal drones and EFFICIENCY to delay bureaucracy drones.

Use doctors (inititially) and other specialists since the base is size 5 or more.
Specialists with psych ability: Empath, Thinker and Transcend.
You can even have all citizens set as specialists in a base and use crawlers to get nutrients.
Because only citizens become drones, not specialists.

In short: increase number of TALENTS, increase number of DRONES.

Factions that control easier the drone problems: Peacekeepers (extra TALENTS), Cybernetic Consciousness (+2 EFFICIENCY), The Lord's Believers (can build Recreation Commons from start), Human Hive (use of POLICE STATE), Free Drones (less DRONES), Cult of Planet (double POLICE for mindworms).
Factions that control harder the drone problems: University of Planet (extra drones), Nautilus Pirates (-1 EFFICIENCY), Gaia's Stepdaughters and Data Angels (-1 POLICE).

To respond to this post, I believe you don't quite understand what I mean by ICS. When attempting to build bases spaced apart by only one square between them, it is known as Infinite Colony Sprawl. Now, I would love to be able to implement this strategy to cover my starting continent. But, I run into drone problems when my bases are still size one. This means that I cannot produce another colony pod, because the drones riot, or if I turn the one worker into a doctor, the base does not grow into a size 2 base. All of this occurs well before I get Industrial Automation, so, no crawlers to harvest food.
Hopefully, you understand that this is happening in the first 25 turns. That if I do get to the point where I can build facilities, like the ones you mentioned, I am fine. The problem lies in the opening gambit. How do I sprawl properly?

You can try this, if you have at least one size 2 base in the center of your kingdom, more and bigger is better.
Build a colony pod from it, and instead of creating another city, join it to one size 1 base towards the margins of your empire.
From the now size 2 base at the edge, create a colony pod and with it create another city.
Repeat this as necessary. Maybe it takes a little longer, but you can expand more taking things step by step...

With that logic, why should I build a colony pod twice? Why not just move the colony pod to the new base site, 2 spaces away? The reason I am sprawling in the first place is to gain a turn advantage. Why should I give back time?

My advice was thinking about how to control bases using doctors (you said your bases were drone rioting even at size 1), and if you think again, now you can build colony pods both at your center and your edge bases, so increasing you number of cities faster, at the cost of delaying just one city built.

If I have drones rioting at size one, I also have drones rioting at size 2. The real issue is the bureaucracy drones, because I have too many bases. How do I solve bureaucracy drone issues before I can increase the efficiency rating?

If your bases produce at least 2 energy, you can put PSYCH allocation even up to 100%. A drone is removed for every 2 energy put into PSYCH. Of course, that means no energy produced and no research done. Or you stop producing new colony pods since the first bureaucracy drone appears, and wait until you research Social Psych, build Recreation Commons at all your bases, and only afterwards you start building new colony pods. And when you reach the second warning about bureaucracy drones, you build new drone and/or talent facilities at your older bases, Recreation Commons at all your new bases, and so on.

This is not my idea, it is on the Vel's guide too...

Vel's guide mentions several expansion paradigms. I am using the ICS strategy that Ogie Oglethorpe has proposed, and many others have suggested. I will not get to social psych for some time after I beeline to IA, then lift my restrictions, then finally head back to social psych. Allocating 100% to psych will cripple my research rate which will nullify any turn advantage I may get. If I have an opportunity to trade for it, or steal it, that would be the best option. But, again, that would sacrifice the turn advantage I will have acrrued

Can you provide a link where this strategy is analyzed, please?

I am sorry, I don't have a high enough post count to post a link yet.

After I take care of some errands today, I will try to find other posts where a more appropriate discussion can be found.
