  • The ongoing ISIS massacres

The ongoing massacres of non Muslims by the fanatics of ISIS is well known. But still we do almost nothing!

I'd like to dedicate this thread to the victims of ISIS and ask all of you if you believe in God to pray for these poor souls, and for the rest of the world to take action, NOW.

This is what the barbarians do(spoilered due to very graphic video):

    Spoiler:
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

Was ISIS not the goal of US mideast policy over last decade?

    Spoiler:

After strangling Saddam, they seriously weakend Assad to make ISIS possible.

Since they made it, should we in Europe be the ones to undo it?

It would be an interesting project for our already struggling economy.

When has Europe ever done anything? The world doesn't expect anything from Europe. Even if you wanted to do something you can't since your military is a joke.

Well we started WWI, WWII, almost WWIII ( ), gave Israel that piece of land in the middle east, partitioned middle east, had Suez crisis, started Vietnam war, had Greeks and Turks have war over Cyprus, removed communism, had a recent war on the continent in the Balkans, resolved it, currently have a civil war in Ukraine... all that, and more in the last 100 years.

I guess it is for the best that our military engagements are somewhat limited otherwise we will all go up in a mushroom cloud.

Even with "restraint" EU managed to spend over 200bn on military last year alone, which is higher than China for example. Sure dwarfed by 3/4 of a trillion from US, but far from being nothing.

anyway, to address the point, it's awful what is happening, but what can really be done about it. at least what can really be done that doesn't involve a long and expensive commitment that may well have other undesirable consequences in the future.

The EU laid down that marker by pushing for an invasion of Libya based on a "Responsibility to Protect."

Or better yet - "responsibility to ruin".

With ISIS, the normal path would be to reverse the policy on Assad, start to assist him, continue to assist Kurds and central Iraqi government. Without all three being in place, ISIS will continue to rule their part of the desert for a long time to come.

It is a little amusing that the Pope (of all people) is more hawkish than Poly's leftists wrt military force to stop the genocide being perpetrated by ISIS. Seriously, when is someone going to call in ODIN to deal with them?

Oerdin was already in Iraq, and he did not seem to like it too much either.

We do invasions pretty damn well. (It's the rest of it we suck at.) We should stick to our strengths. Push ISIS around a bit until they're hiding in caves. Offer their wives greencards. Build a giant strip mall somewhere in the desert just for the hell of it. Then leave. Make them wonder what the **** happened.
