Food insecurity doesn't actually refer to not having food. It means "we can't say people are starving anymore so we have to come up with a new justification for useless welfare programs and NGOs." These people's jobs depend on pretending that there is still hunger in this country.

Maybe you should learn what food insecurity actually means.

Food insecure numbers count Low and Very Low. Hunger only applies to Very Low. Anyone getting school lunches qualifies as Low (my son certainly complains about the quality and variety of foods available at school).
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

It's like you just looked at that page for the first time.
It's more like you ignore the metric as they themselves state it because your world view is cracking before your eyes. We are talking about the term food insecurity, not hunger. One category of food security specifically states it has nothing to do with hunger, thus you can be food insecure without hunger. You can also be food insecure and hungry, bu that is irrelevant to what we are talking about.

I quoted the metric, you can accept that or move into (remain?) douche bag liar territory.

"Douche bag liar" is rather strong language for someone who doesn't share your opinion on the validity of the term "food insecurity".

Not when when its not an opinion. Since the term is as used by the government and he provided the government definition, it is a fact.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I just directly responded to the statement you made, which you claimed that according to your link food security is is unrelated to hunger, although your very link stated otherwise. So any complaints you have should be directed at yourself.

What's truly dishonest is that you are completely ignoring that food security involves access to quality and a variety of food. Your millionaire and hohos example is either profoundly dishonest or stupid. In this case, I believe it is the latter and your inability to comprehend food security has led you to become dishonest and defensive (as seen by the quoted post). I stand by my original assessment. Your quoting of the metric and following response further demonstrates that you have much to learn and lack to will to in addition.

One thing I do agree with is that the measurement of food insecurity is imperfect. Access to food is hard to measure, so type food intake is usually a close proxy. In addition, most surveys ask additional questions about food availability and anxiety as well as general lifestyle. A millionaire may truly become food insecure due to personal desires. But a millionaire is much less likely to reach the Very Low category that you ballyhooed about. Frankly, I'm not sure you even understand your own argument. Regardless, food insecurity as a concept is worth studying because it covers an aspect of nutrition that is lost in solely measuring hunger and the opinion of denying that it even exists is naive.

And he then misused that very definition.

                    • What is it which Dashi and his ilk and self delusion? Despite his backtracking and attempt at face saving in that last paragraph that basically admits he was full if crap and the metric is useless, it's pretty clear he is simply incapable of outright calling the spade of administration data manipulation a spade. The sad thing is that if he actually cares about the hungry he should be furious about exploitiing them politically as is the case here.

850 Calories is quite reasonable for a lunch. Multiply x 3 meals and you get 2550 total calories. What should be happening is that kids from families without adequate income should also be getting school breakfasts of equal caloric value. Many school districts provide this service.

Oh and those kids going out and buying big bage of chips? 30% of America's kids are now obese.

Yes of course, the people working to help end food insecurity are just 'exploiting' the poor, while the ****s voting to end welfare, cut wages and remove help to the poorest are the champions of humanity. ****ing ridiculous.

Incidentally, pointing to some tiny shiver of people who accidentally fall into a definition as if that somehow disproves the whole group exists is really, really goddamn stupid. I suppose a millionaire choosing to fast for a week means that a group classified as going hungry isn't an issue too right?

Not everyone has easy access to supermarkets that stock healthy food at inexpensive prices, and even when they do have access expecting a parent working two jobs to prepare fresh meals can be largely unrealistic. If they even have proper cooking facilities and knowledge.
