I think every 'Deadliest Warrior' episode shows ranged weapons beat melee weapons. Crazed killer swings axe in crowd - axe maimes/kills one person - others jump/disarm killer.

No. American children, parents, students, anyone with or without mental health issues should carry loaded guns at all times... and I'm postponing my next trip to the US for another 2 years.

Incidentally what happens when the real SWAT arrive in body armour looking like the shooters? Do those amateur hero's get confused in the smoke and start shooting at the cops? More importantly, how do the cops differentiate between the psycho mass killer and the brave concealed carry hero?

A 16 minute response by police pretty much ensured this is not a credible scenario as there was no means for the police to interrupt the rampage or accidently shoot an armed citizenry.

They didn't show up until at least 10 minutes after the shootings started. Found him sometime after the first cops arrived on scene.

Even at 10 minutes, no way in hell anything they could have done anything to mitigate the situation. He was outside sitting around by then per the reports and submitted 'peacefully'.

edit - my bad I relied on Daily Mail. I know unreliable source at best. Not sure that I can find a good timeline. However, it was reported that Holmes was arrested without struggle outside. The fact was the cops arrested the individual without relying on deadly force, thus claims of wading into a smoke filled theater and stopping a firefight in progress seem off the mark.

The very first thing Holmes did was toss some kind of canister into the theater that, from all reports, emitted smoke or gas that obscured visibility and caused audience members eyes to tear. So in a venue where people have reduced visibility and compromised vision, you want more guns going off? And you think the odds are that the rounds from the person/persons with CCP will take down the guy in body armor and a ballistic helmet rather than more screaming, fleeing audience members? Alrighty then.

You are only as good as your training so it's ludicrous to think some street Rambo would have been able to take out the shooter while under fire. The only people Sloww could reasonably expect to have had the training to handle the situation were the servicemen in the theater (1 of whom was a cryptologist, another was a cyber-systems operator, and the last one IIRC was an airman). Only one of those might have been able to do anything.

The media as usual has an agenda and it's spinning the story with loaded terms.


And it's interesting seeing what weapons he had. The shotgun and the handgun are more dangerous than the rifle is.

He used the shotgun 1st according to reporting. I have no info on if he also used the handgun.
