How recent do the reports have to be calling you a liar?

        • If I ever get to be CEO of Bain and they offer me $100,000, I would laugh in their face and kill myself. I made more as a first-year litigator. They might as well not have paid him anything.

          • I agree $100,000 isn't much at that level but it does say that he was still on the payroll and therefor probably still doing something for the company even if he wasn't involved in the day to day. He was also on the board of directors of Bain until 2002 and probably got something for that too so the claim that he was no longer involved with Bain after 1999 is clearly bogus.

What do I need to do to get Romney to kill himself?

Maybe he was just lending them his name. He was running the Olympics and about to run Massachusetts.

I've reported this to the Secret Service and Fareed Zakaria.

                • It's HufPo so I'd like confirmation from another source but one of Mitt Romney's advisers said today that Romney did in fact work part time at Bain until 2002 and when he resigned in 2002 he declared he was "retroactively" resigning back to 1999. As if someone could actually do such a thing. It's obvious he knew Bain's doings would be a political liability and thought he could lie about it.

Now I'm just waiting for confirmation from another source and then it becomes official.

                  • Oh, and a new document from Bain came up describing Romney as a "managing member" through to 2002.

                    • Jeez-- the world of attack politics just gets worse

I was in Texas and there was an attack ad against some guy-- HIs big crime was that as a lawyer he had been the ATTORNEY OF RECORD in some litigation by the Chinese against US companies. Then they played a clip of him saying he was not the lead attorney ( entirely possible) and the tag line was WORKING AGAINST AMERICA AND LYING TO YOU ABOUT IT

                      The Romney thing

                      1. a 100K payment is chump change at that level
                      2. If the decision at Bain were the right ones then those that made them should be applauded not criticized

I wish that politics were such that Romney could say something like

I was not part of the outsourcing decisions at Bain as I was transitioning out and busy running the Olympics. But if I had been active, I would have likely made the same decision since a CEO has a duty to the shareholders ahead of everything else. AS preseident of the UNited States my duty would be the citizens of the US and no one else and I would protect your interests now in the same manner etc etc

He could then launch into an attack on the Democratic party policies which made it necessaryt for companies to leave etc etc

BUT-- a politician probably cannot play it that straight and admitr that outsourcing might have been the right call for someone. The attack ad sound bites would probably be horrific

                      • Today's Meet the Press where the Romney adviser admitted that Romney "resigned retroactively" in 2002. What does this mean? It means that the other side linking Romney to outsourcing and the closing of US factories is indeed fair game despite all of Romney's claims that it wasn't related to him. At the very least the lies he's told about exactly when he left Bain (and let's be honest he tried to claim he resigned in 1999 instead of the reality that he "retroactively resigned" in 2002 is because he was afraid it would hurt him politically) does bring his character into question.

It makes you wonder what else Romney is lying about.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                              • What's pretty clear now is either Romney lied to the FCC, which is a felony, or he lied to the American people about his business policies. Personally, I think he was telling the truth to the FCC (with the documents he personally signed) and he's just embarrassed and wants to avoid the political fall out of Bain's policies. He lied because he didn't want to be associated with Bain's outsourcing for political reasons but given that Romney's sole claim to being better than Obama is the claim that he knows the economy better so his business policies of outsourcing are fair game even if he'd prefer no one look at the record.
