    Rock of Ages

I thought this musical was a decent movie about 80's rock and roll, club scenes were pretty acurate, showed a has been rocker imploding..a.k.a. Jim Morrison style...or Bad Company rock n roll tale of Johnny in Shooting Star, many dumped on Tom Cruise but felt his portrayel of Stacee Jaxx came across pretty decent. Certainly not an academy award nor very deep, but overall a decent movie
Did anyone have Ryan Dunn From Jackass FAME? He died in a fiery car crash speeding after being in a bar. And to think, everyone thought he would die doing something stupid-rah

I missed a lot of the 80's with starting a family and going to school at night. When I looked up, it was the 90's and it sucked.

The 90s were fine old man. But the 10s certainly suck...what has come out that is good this decade so far? Nothing.

Arcade Fire would beg to differ. As would PJ Harvey, Bon Iver (I'm not a fan, but I can acknowledge his talent), Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, Adele, Janelle Monáe, etc., etc.

Maybe you should try a little to find decent music .

Not absolutely. My daughter likes the same music that I do, for the most part. She's more into metal than I, but she can tell you anything at all about the Doors.

This Rock of Ages thing has turned into an instant franchise, with a stage version and movie basically out at the same time. I fully expect a TV series and maybe even an animated version in short order. It's a cynical, opportunistic ploy that wants you to believe that hair metal was good music, when in fact most of it was generic, interchangeable crap.

That said, it's hard not to look back on those days of trashy, willing groupies and cocaine-fueled reverie without a bit of jealous admiration.

I'm just not sure I could buy Tom Cruise as a hairband rocker. While his performance may be on I would still know it's him and don't think I would believe it. 80's hair bands were my thing at the time so he'd really have to do a good job.

Tia, I agree, its like when I see Tom Cruise I see Oprah couch bouncing and Risky Business, when I see /top Gun, its a movie not thinking fighter pilot, same with MI series, dont see Tom as any secret agent type, but he is an actor, and one review pinned the tail on the donkey..the movie is satirical look, not a documentary or rocumentary if you will. If Tom Cruise had say been portraying Jon Bon Jovi or Joe Perry of Aeromsith or John Kay of Steppenwolf, he wouldnt have pulled it off IMHO, but this was a lighthearted look. Of the clubs and venues I bounced at, was pretty much straight on...

That entire list would beg to differ. The '10s are doing quite fine in their 2.5 years so far, especially compared to the 90s.

Tom cruise has a crooked jaw line. I enjoy pointing out flaws like this when Mrs Horse is watching his movies.
