pardon me, the auction league
and thats a live draft in late august

I don't see why we should wait for him - IDP has always had our own settings.I guess we're waiting on Jag's settings but since we're "idp" we'll have our own settings for defense
Hopefully we dont cause any imbalances with the offense
Edit, what Jag said.

Has a league started sign up for IDP? nm. I see. No.

let the discussion begin!
somebody said 20 yds/pt for returning kicks was too much, bumping it to 25 or 30 is reasonable, and I'd like to vote on adding TE to the flex spot
and if reducing the impact of QBs is desired, why not making pass tds 4 pts?
Last edited by Berzerker; July 25, 2012 at 15:34.

I'd been hoping to keep continuity with the last one, though it's not really that important.
I have no problem with adding TE to the flex spot, and agree that returners should be nerfed somewhat - I'd go further to 1/50 though, just because there's no fantasy position for "returner" and it distorts the value of the players at other positions. I think that the QBs are ok as is though. There's certainly a general upward trend, but I think last year was a bit of an aberration in how huge the jump was. I could see pulling the yardage scoring back a bit if others feel differently.

I'm fine with leaving the settings as is. I drafted one of the best 'returners' and got burned when he got injured.

On another forum, someone posted about being in a ppr league at work that awarded 1 per 10 return yardsDarren Sproles with #1 pick?

At risk of being ridiculed for suggesting the bizarre.....it seems that strategy of defensive players is to pick them (largely) after you pick most of your offensive players. I'd like to see us UP the points for defense, and encourage people to take defensive players earlier (and change up the strategy significantly as a result).

The past is history. Tomorrow's a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present.

Sparrow, the reason for that is simply because of point differential. The dropoff between the number one defensive lineman and the waiver wire is far less than the dropoff between the number one quarterback and the waiver wire.
Even if you were to up the points - you'd still see people take quarterbacks et al first, and then move onto the defense. It's also much harder to predict how they will do.
FFS - this is the time to bring something like this up!At risk of being ridiculed![]()

I approve of Sparrow's suggestion, for what it's worth.

I also agree. Each position should be awarded the same level of potential.

Defensive points are already fairly liberal, and we increased defensive value by going from 3 to 5 roster spots a few years back. Average points per week is around 30-35 IIRC. I consider 40 pts to be a good week on defense.
Current settings:
Tackle Solo 1 pt
Tackle Assist 0.5 pt
Sack 2 pt
Interception 3 pt
Fumble Force 2 pt
Fumble Recovery 3 pt
Defensive Touchdown 6 pt
Safety 4 pt
Pass Defended 1 pt
Block Kick 3 pt
I can see upgrading the value of turnovers and sacks a bit, but there's only so much one can do.

BTW, we need EPW to check in, start the league, then officially hand off the commish duties to Koya at Yahoo.

If we're going to do this, here's my proposal:
Tackle Solo 2 pt
Tackle Assist 1 pt
Sack 4 pt
Interception 5 pt
Fumble Force 5 pt
Fumble Recovery 5 pt
Defensive Touchdown 6 pt
Safety 5 pt
Pass Defended 2 pt
Block Kick 5 pt
D'Qwell would have 294 points.

Well, that's what it would take to get the top defensive players up to about the same as the top Running backs, etc. Even then, you wouldn't see a defensive player in the first 4 rounds.Personally, I think that is over the top. Way over.

epw aint around and wont be playing
I understand it was a trial balloon, Ben. Just sayin' I would oppose it.
Re EPW, he didn't play last year either. He agreed to be commish when I resigned that honor. And as last year's commish, he holds the key to restarting the league. Yahoo wouldn't let me do it. Berz, is EPW unreachable? Is so, I'll have to email Yahoo for help. (The IDP league has history going back to '07, so it would nice to continue that imho.)

Any idea when the AFC online draft will be held? I am busy the weekend before season starts and hope that we can do it two weeks before (Aug. 25th or 26th). If it has to be 9/1 or 9/2 I can try to make the time, but week before is preferred.

This is not a scoring issue IMO. Adjusting the scoring for defenders would benefit the collective, but would completely miss the point of rewarding great players for their performance.
Defenders have a lower priority because there are fewer true top performers.
Here's a performance breakdown of the top 25 RBs and top 25 LBs from 2011 (season point totals):
- RBs: The difference between RB1 and RB6 last year was a whopping 108 points (over the entire season), and the difference between RB7 and RB25 was still 49.85 points
- LBs: The difference between LB1 and LB6 last year was only 16 points, and the difference between LB7 and LB25 was only 30 points.
We're pickier when it comes to offensive players, because there are actual true top performers.
It's also psychological: as long as a defender's expected performance is within a certain range, most of us don't really care who that defender is.

i sent EPW a pm asking him to make Koy the commish
All he needs to do is start the league with same settings as before and let us know. When Koya joins, EPW can go to Change Commisssioner under the Commissioner's Tools tab. (Commish must be a league member.)
Alternately, Koya can just start a "new league" and use the "Use settings from another league" tool, which will offer Poly IDP FF11 as one of the options (since Koya played in the league). But we would lose the Yahoo league history, so it would be nice if EPW made this easy for us.
Thanks for PMing him.
